Stats Evaluation- Good Idea?

It's only $89, so I'm thinking about possibly getting it. It doesn't sound much.

Should I just trust my school's college counselor?

Depends on how good your counselor is and how familiar they are with the colleges in which you are interested. I did the Stats Evaluation for my daughter, and I'd say it was worth it. I've heard from a few others who got it, and they were also pleased with the information.

I would spend the $89, b/c I know I don't trust my counselor

My counselor isn't my school's college counselor. I'm going to another counselor for college admission advice because she's gotten other students to go to some selective colleges(even if they weren't her assigned students).

I don't even know my assigned counselor well. I might ask my school's college counselor to write some recommendations for me.

I think I might get the Stats Eval. Maybe.

Yes. I did the 89 dollar thing. And he nailed almost every college i did/did not get into while giving you updates on what you should do. If you are financially a little stretched, theres a few key moderators for each top school on CC i.e. UCLARI for UCLA and Alexandre for U of Michigan who you could ask for very accurate advice.

could you please explain what it entails?

you list your gpa, test scores, extracurriculars, submit your essays, list of schools and he basically tells you this is what you should work on/improve and he gives you a rough percentage of how likely you will get into X school. For instance, U of M i was put as "ball park" meaning 85 percent chance to get in, but UCLA i was put at "match" meaning 50 percent and Northwestern as a "reach" meaning less then 30 percent. He then gives you a chance to ask questions. Hahah daman your lucky i reloaded the page and saw your q. For 89 dollars it did alot for me..tell me where i should be looking at, where to keep my hopes up for, and what to do. But most importantly, i used to be on CC all the time because i was insecure about my chances. This eliminates that insecurity and tells you how it really is. Worth 89 bucks? Yeah for me.

Or you could just go to the free Princeton REview Counselor-O-Matic.....or you could spend $89.

Counselor-O-Matic is notoriously variable with regards to reach/match/safety. It is good for suggesting schools, but always take their chances with a very large grain of salt.

yeah. It really does not take into account strength of essays, ranking of your school, how good your location is, etc etc. If you have the money or can spare 89 dollars then i seriously recommend doing it becuase it was right on for almost every college i applied too. If money IS an issue however then obvioulsy its better to just wait it out.

Dont do counseler-o-matic. Apperently yale and cornell are matches for me with a 3.7 gpa and top 25% of my class.

lol, Brown was my safety........................................jk
