What is a good sat score when applying to arch majors at top colleges like Yale UPenn and Princeton? Would it be the same as the schools average or would it be different when applying as an architect major?
All of the universities that you list offer the pre-professional BA Bachelor of Arts IN architecture, not the professional BArch Bachelor OF architecture. For Yale you apply to Yale College, for Penn to the College of Arts and Sciences and for Princeton to Princeton University. The academic standards required would follow those of the parent college/university.
Though you may indicate on your application that you’re interested in pursuing architecture as a major, you won’t officially declare your major until your sophomore year. If you decide to submit an arts supplement with your application, your art/design talent will be evaluated by the art/design department and may be considered a plus, like any other extracurricular. However, a portfolio is not required for first year admissions.
It is presumed that sophomores in good standing who have performed well in introductory courses, will be accepted to the BA Architecture major; however, there is no guarantee. Nor is there a guarantee that BA architecture graduates will be accepted into the university’s own highly selective MArch program. You would, however, be a strong and well prepared candidate for admission to any MArch program.
