stats for medical

Does anyone know if classes like AEM 2100 Introductory Statistics
and PAM 2100 Introduction to Statistics

Count towards teh BCPM as a math class?

Also does anyone know if we get credits for both classes? I know classes like dsoc/soc 101 you only get credits for 1 of them so I was wondering if stats was like that too. Thanks

Yeah…I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t count toward BCPM. Heck…even my nutrition courses counted in the BCPM calculation.

wow they let those in?! what year did you do your amcas cause i heard it changes every year almost -_-.
do they automatically count it or do you have to list it first? i definitely dont want my NS classes on there haha

I did the AMCAS app in 2007 and 2008…and will be doing one this year (shoot me now, please). The nice thing is, they save all of your info so the only thing I need to do is designate the schools I will apply to.

When you do your AMCAS app you have to list every single course you took and classify it according to subject type. I took NS 115, 331, 345 and 441…all of them had a heavy emphasis on biology/biochem/chemistry…so I felt it appropriate to list it as a biology course. JJ in the health careers advising office agreed with me when I asked her if it was appropriate to designate my NS classes as such.

When the AMCAS staff verifies your app, they’ll look at the classification you selected. If they agree, they’ll leave it. If not, they’ll change it and note the change on your app.

oh i see ! you must hate the amcas lol

I hate AMCAS and US medical school admissions in general :-P

Is BCPM something we should list in our resumes or is our major GPA enough? I’ve never even heard of it until now :)

BCPM is exclusive to medical school admission (or so it seems to me). Since BCPM is your GPA in biology, chemistry, physics and math…it won’t be applicable for those studying non-science fields ;)

I’m actually surprised you got so many nutrition courses to count under BPCM. I’d expect the nutrition biochem and stats classes to count but apparently you had others count as well. Nutrition is officially listed under Health Sciences by AMCAS, which is not a BPCM category.

Yeah…I thought I’d give it a shot with my NS classes since I did well in them…I was surprised the AMCAS verifier agreed with me!
