Well, I figured rather than just asking for a “Chance Me” it would be better to compare my stats to people that already got in. Id really appreciate it, thank you :)

And some of my stats are (UC GPA: 6.5 SAT:1940 (M-550 R-660 W-730) Comm Service-102.5 hours 7 AP tests in all by the end of Senior year, and i have a 3,4,4 and a 5 from the tests i’ve already taken)

And I applied to be a Biological Science major in general or an Evolution and Ecology major.

I could elaborate on my stats if anyone cares but yea. Please respond, thanks.

heyyyy, your UC GPA is almost the same as mine (3.64). My SAT score is higher (2090) but you’ve taken more AP classes than I have and your extracurriculars are probably better than mine.

Thanks are you in or did you apply? Good luck if you applied.

My extra curriculars include tutoring kids grades 3-6 for like 6 months, being a member of 3 clubs (Key CLub, Sierra club, Humane Society Youth Club) secretary of 1(Humane society), beach cleanup, Editor of Creative Writing Anthology, Setting up a money and supply drive for my local animal shelter, and coordinating an adoption event with the shelter. Aside from random stuff, thats it.

When i went to the tour, one of the students on the panel said he got in with a 3.3 but a good SAT score and this other girl was the opposite, 4.2 but a bad SAT. The only problem with that though, is I don’t know their definitions of good and bad SAT scores :/

Most people just come on the forum to bide the waiting time and suffer more by thinking about acceptances. The majority of the threads are “chance me”, wondering a little about college life but mostly how much they should fear/definitely take certain classes.

Back to the topic, it’s a combination of the both good SATs and GPA. I still strongly believe that extracurriculars is the real game changer. There has to be a good study/life balance that they think you can bring to the UCD campus. You can be certain that they aren’t just looking for all studying library lurkers nor are they looking for party hard from Monday night to Monday morning type of people.

In a sense, when they sift through the applications, if everyone has 3.5s and 2000 SATs (which is pretty darn good imho) the applications start to become a little faceless and lack luster. In short, good GPA and SATs are great, but they don’t mean everything.

indeed, and also, im glad that that’s true because the SAT is such a hack-able test in my opinion. I mean with no studying i went up 300 points just by re-taking it. and then theres people who can study…take classes… etc etc and also sheer luck with guessing tips it as well. I’m thankful for the essays and other contributions they take into account.

and sry if i sounded grouchy up there, haha yea, i’m just like everyone else here, getting more insecure about my app status as the days go by
