My D was waitlisted to UCONN this year with high credentials, as well as others who are considered at the top of the class. From what we’ve learned this year about UCONN, it was very competitive this year. If your S is looking at UCONN for next year, I would recommend applying early as it is rolling admission (especially if the economy doesn’t improve). I’m not sure about this, but I think a higher GPA is an indicator of whether or not you’re admitted to Storrs campus versus a branch.

NEMom…could you be a little more specific when you say “high credentials”? What was his GPA and SAT scores? When did he apply? Are you in-state?

Don’t let all these stats scare you, these kids are taking high school way too seriously. Your sons probably going to be fine. I got in this year with 1800 SATs 680 math/530 reading and and 88 unweighted average which is a 3.3, and with his job and football, UConn won’t have any second thoughts about letting your son in. Just make sure he applies for early action and you should get in sometime around Christmas. What is he looking to major in?

As you can see, I did NOT do well in high school! After trying hard my first semester of college, I applied to UConn. My current GPA is a 3.3. So if UConn, or any college for that matter is high on your list, try to apply again as a transfer student! It pays off! :)
