I'm from Singapore. Michigan's one of my top choices, applied UIUC (though that app got lost somehow) and Cornell too. Well, I'm considering UPenn and Wisc-Mad too because as of now, I still can't decide between doing actuarial science or biomedical engineering. Ideally I'd like to be able to do both though I think that might a bit crazy. Any suggestions?

For Biomedical Engineering, Penn and Michigan are the top 2 schools you are looking into, though Michigan has better school for Engineering overall and the actual Engineering facilities at Michigan are much nicer and more cutting edge than at Penn. Wisconsin is ok in Biomendical Engineering and UIUC just recently started...but they will probably catch up quickly. I am not sure Cornell even has a Biomedical Engineering program.

As for the Actuarial sciences, I would say Cornell is one of hte best in the country Wisconsin is not far behind. Michigan, Illinois and Penn are also solid in the Actuarial sciences, but not as good as Cornell or Wisconsin.

Overall, I would say go for Cornell, Michigan or Penn, depending on your personal style and overall preferences. The three schools are completely different, so it shouldn't be too difficult to decide.

Accepted into LSA. I was notified of receipt of application on Dec26, they began processing Jan5, and I got the letter a week or two ago, I don't know the exact date...

1470 SAT (770V, 700M), 800Wri, 730Lit
3.9 GPA
15/138

Thanks, Alexandre. I am waiting to hear from the University of Virginia, William & Mary and Grinnell, at this point. I've also been accepted into U. of Pittsburgh, where I received a pretty hefty scholarship offer as well. Michigan, however, is probably my first-choice and I was very happy to get the decision. I'm remotely hopeful that Michigan will send me some kind of scholarship offer, even though from what I hear that's fairly unlikely. It would certainly help nudge my parents in the right direction, though.

Accepted out-of-state (NY) into engineering.

Applied December 15
Accepted February 22
Top 5% of ~190
1550 SAT (800M/750V)

My friend was also accepted into engineering from NY, with a similar timetable for his application, with second 5% of the same class, 1500 SAT (800M/700V).

alexandre- thanks
im planning on majoring in history

i've also been accepted to Illinois- Urbana Champaign, Penn State UP, Purdue, and University of Georgia/ rejected at UNC Chapel Hill, waiting for W& M and Wake Forest. Hoping for te best

Lepenguin, Michigan is great...but UVA, W&M and Grinnell are all awesome schools too. If you get into all of them...chosing a university is going to be TOUGH! LOL Well, here's hoping that you join the family!

mmbwm, if you don't get into W&M, Michigan would probably be your best option. If you do get into W&M, you will have some decisions to make. I prefer Michigan, but W&M is also a very good school.

JamesCarville and IvyBoy, congratulations on your acceptances. Great stats you have there. What other schools are competing for your affections?! LOL At any rate, good luck with your other applications and hopefully, you will join Michigan come the Fall!

Hahalikeno and PersianKing, congratulations on your acceptances. What other colleges and universities are you looking at and where does Michigan stand?

Thanks, lol. Well, the only other school I've heard from so far is CalTech, so I think I'm going to have to visit both in the near future. Also, it depends on whether either school awards me some sort of scholarship.

Wow James. You got into CalTech? Can't beat CalTech for Engineering. CalTech and Michigan are so different though, so won't have to think too long about this one. I have ever only known a handful of students that got into CalTech and chose Michigan instead. I knew far more that got into MIT and chose Michigan instead. I have never met a Stanford acceptee that pick Michigan instead though. I guess Stanford shares a lot of the similar characteristics that Michigan has...plus it is a better school. Anyway, good luck and keep us posted.

Joseph Jewell, one of the Rhodes Scholar last year, is currently a graduate student in UMich Engineering School.
He receives his undergraduate degree from CalTech!

Alexandre-- I have gotten into U Wisconsin Madison, UMass Amherst, and Northeastern University. haha I'm waiting (til March/April) for Bowdoin, Brown, Carleton, Cornell, Georgetown, Macalester, McGill, Vassar, and William and Mary.

Congrats Charmedone...not that there was any doubt you'd get in. So, what is your intended major, what other schools are you waiting to hear from...and how does Michigan rank on your list of schools?
