Hey, guys! This is my first post, though I’ve been reading for a while.

I’m an Ohio resident, and I’ll likely graduate HS with at least 90 credits at OSU. Do housing options differ for first-years with junior status? I’ve looked through the housing section of the website pretty thoroughly, but maybe there’s something I’m missing.

Thanks!

At Orientation, I ran into numerous kids with more than the 45 credit hours needed to gain above-freshmen status. I'm actually going to be a "Junior" when I get to my second year.

If you've scoured the website, you know that Ohio State DOES differentiate between "rank" and "year." Rank is based on credit hours in increments of 45, while year is just as it says, year. And yes, depending on the program/department/whatever they may only care about one or the other.

I've checked out the Admissions website, and you definitely don't count as a transfer, because you haven't attained 45 credit hours POST high school (unless you have, then I'm just kidding and you can ignore the rest). And if you aren't a transfer, but you ARE new to OSU, then as far as Admissions and Housing and FYE are concerned, you are a "first-year." Same as freshmen.

I actually met someone like you at Orientation (PSEO at lightspeed, I guess), and the fact that they were at freshmen orientation seems to imply that you too would be considered a freshmen, at least as far as Admissions, Housing, etc.

For more information, I'd suggest contacting the recruiter for the particular college you're interested in (for example, I shot a bunch of e-mails back and forth with the head of recruitment for the College of Engineering during my application process, whenever I had a random question).

Good luck!

My son had a similar situation last year, but a first year is a first year as far as housing goes. Once you get started it seems like rank matters more in terms of scheduling and housing priority and such. My S will be a second year this year, but as of winter quarter he will be a rank 4. Go figure

I and many of my friends came in with additional credits that ranked us between sophomores-juniors, (2nd-3rd rank to be technical) and AFAIK none of us had extra options. I agree with PennilessParent that "a first year is a first year as far as housing goes."
