so im going to be an upcoming freshman this fall, and i had orientation last week. i was all excited until i found out that i wasn't going to be in the residential program i wanted, and the reason i wanted it was because it would have smaller classes. Now, im going to be stuck in general classes, anywhere from a few hundred to a thousand people, and that class size is freaking me out. i was super caught up in the 4 year experience thing, until my cousin told me what my monthly budget was and that i probably wouldnt be able to balance 2 jobs in order to afford it. the cost hasn't hit me until now, which is $27,000 for being an Undeclared freshman student. and now im really starting to regret denying other better financial aid i had been offered at other schools, b/c if i stay in Boulder, at the end of 4 years my debt would be around $120,000 :s should i go to CU next month or do my pre-reqs at a community college? would it be hard to make friends if i transferred to a university my freshman spring semester???? thanks!

Now that you’ve realized the impact of your FA I would seriously look at CC. $120K of debt is a house…

First off, you can’t borrow that kind of money without a co-signer, so unless you have someone lined up who is good for it, you can’t afford Boulder. Period.

Your choices right now look to be either enrolling at your community college starting this fall, or taking a year off and reapplying to places that will give you better financial aid packages. Your best chance at getting good aid, is to apply as a freshman, and that means you can’t take classes during your gap year.

Sit down with your family, and talk about where exactly the money is going to come from for your education. Can you get through two years of community college followed by two years at Boulder without any debt other than that permitted with the Stafford loans?
