While I have seen many threads on "why did I try so hard in high school only to be rejected" and like "enjoy highschool while you can", remember to not enjoy high school too much. At least the person who may not have gone out to finish their project, stayed up to study for that one test, and/or stayed awake for most of the semester will have decent exit opportunities/colleges unlike the super lazy kids, the potheads, and/or others. While you might not be in your dream school and might be going to a college outside of the TOP FIFTY, there are others who are deciding between pile of **** 1 versus pile of **** 2 and realizing that they are effectively screwed unless they transfer due to messing around during high school. I went 4/16 for American colleges and I can neither afford and/or wish to attend where I have gotten into and with an extra GPA point I most likely would have gone 16/16. So before you rant about your options, realize that trying in school might actually have a purpose, and that you might not have your safety if you hadn't. Putting effort into school whether for the extremely bright student, might be actually doing the busy work or for the average student studying for that test and doing the work is crucial.
While you might not want to do the work realize that doing it will end with you having much better options than not doing it.

And yes I will admit I am happy that I even have options even if I really am not to excited about them.
