staying up late

what I do is this........I just take a power nap (and most of the times I wake up w/ any alarms late at night!) And then I CRAM!

I used to take a lot of caffine pills but recently I haven't. Unfortunately, its a lot more difficult to stay up without the caffine.

like others have said:
a. take a shower (hot water wakes your body up for a little while at least)
b. take a quick 1-2 hour nap. Make sure you can wake up though. Sadly for me, I am an extremely deep sleeper so I just sleep right on through, but if you can wake up definately go for it!
c. try doing some push-ups or sit-ups (unless of course it makes u more tired...)
d. splash some cold water on your face
e. eat some sugar/ice cream

Yeah there you have it. Good luck!

monsters don't have any effect on me...it's kinda strange.

one thing though(at least really applicable for me....) never go to bed by taking high sugar contents (ice cream, Reese's, this sorta things.......)_

get a pair of tweezers and if you catch yourself nodding off, start plucking your arm hairs out one by one.

Construct a complicated alarm clock that will be set off every time you nod your head.

Like on Arthur! ...no? No one else watched that show when they were growing up? ....

"get up & do some exercises"

That's what I do. Whenever I finish 5 pset problems, I get up and do 100 jumping jacks.

I also drink sparkling water because it makes me feel like I'm getting caffeine... even though I'm not. Oranges also work well for me, as does splashing FREEZING water on my face. Oh. Also dancing to happy music.

Nap, shower... they're all good.

When you're up so late that you can't do homework, simply drop it. If your homework is only worth like 2pts, you can afford the dent in the grade.

Lack of sleep builds up. You should get at least 7hr per day (8-9hr is best though). When you're too tired to do homework, the quality of your work is usually less than acceptable, and you're not getting much out of it.

The idea is to prioritize - is there any homework that's not due for a long time (eg. like how my Physics teacher assigns homework daily but doesn't collect them until test day), or homework that's not graded (where you get one point for just doing it)? If that's the case, shrug it off until later.

I just get 5 hours of sleep! I'm the master of Procrastination! :( :) :D

My philosophy is "Don't go crazy." Intentionally going without sleep for whatever reason is crazy. If I'm doing so much that I have to forgo sleep in order to do it all, then I'm doing too much. I finish all the homework that counts as soon as I get home from school/rehearsal (ohmygodweopennextweek!!!!!), at 3/5 PM, and then work on the more expendable things until at latest 11:00. If I'm not done, then I go to bed anyway.

I know lots of people--otherwise intelligent people--who stay up 'til 3, 4 AM doing homework. (And they have less difficult classes than I do.) I really don't understand why this is necessary. My approach has worked for me, by any measure.

i'm driving myself crazy here. i'm averaging 2 hours a night. i am exhausted. i have 3 major performing arts ECs and sometimes now i'm having all 3 on a school night and they're starting to overlap! a word to the wise: if you are going to do multiple major ECs you better make sure that all of them have fixed schedules and they won't get longer hours as performances approach

another way to stay up when you have to because you didn't get home to start HW until 11 pm... don't let yourself be warm and cozy. take off some clothing and the coldness will keep you up, especially if you have wet hair, brr

Sigh, I want amphetamines, so badly...

And more modafinil pills. Bah, one needs several for an effect, and it's so expensive. Paul Erdos, the most prolific mathematician in the 20th century, used amphetamines. They're dangerous when used too much, but once per week is fine.

Some people have more willpower than others. A belief in willpower helps, but nonetheless, it is highly contingent on many other factors one cannot control.

Makkuroi:
"get a pair of tweezers and if you catch yourself nodding off, start plucking your arm hairs out one by one."

I'm just curious... you actually do that? ouch

hah yes i do. occasionally. when i'm really desperate and i can't stand to drink any more soda or tea. whatever works...

what one of my friends does is she has alarms set between 2 hour periods. so if she does fall asleep, the alarm wakes her up.

but for me, i just eat a lot of sugar before ... ALOT.

Can I make a contrary suggestion? Just sleep. At least for me, if I stay up a half hour too late, I crash miserably the next morning. I feel bad that I'm not one of those crazy people who can keep themselves awake until 3 or 4 in the morning, but w/e, life goes on. In my honest opinion, high school is too early to ruin your life by not sleeping (which is discouraged by a huge mound of research that has been conducted on the matter).

My friend has no problem staying up until 1 every night without any steroids, or such. Maybe you should try being him.

Just kidding.

At this point of staying up late, it's not even possible for me to fall unconscious before midnight (or later).

Usually, I try to just wake up early in the morning and do the stuff, but if you're not a morning person, I suggest keeping all of your lights on, making your room cold, and turning off the tv and your I-Pod.
