@ Senior0991: I understand this however how am I supposed to develop and fully analyze this in less than 25 minutes.
thanks

^I know there isn’t much time. But, not only does a brief outline lead to a better, more coherent essay, but it will actually save time writing your essay because you have a distinct plan to follow. Rather than finishing a body paragraph and wasting precious seconds thinking of another example, you’ll have the whole plan in front of you. So, say you spend four minutes (which is on the high end) thinking of an outline. I can guarantee that you’d make up at least half of that while actually writing the essay. Plus you have a better essay.

^ ok I’ll give it a shot. thanks :)

The prompt: Do changes that make our lives easier not necessarily make them better?

–

(typing this up, I can see all the obvious grammar mistakes and the missing words. sorry x.x)

Change is an inevitable part of evolution and humans are living proof of how drastically the world can change in a short time. Technology advances at exponential rates and finds new ways to facilitate our lives each year. This advancements, while groundbreaking and miraculous, have led to problems of their own. Through devices such as cell phones and cars, technology has detracted greatly from society’s health and communication.

To begin, cell phones are one of the most convenient devices used in our modern society. It facilitates communication, though calling and texting, and even allows people to access the Internet. It is a great invention, and has made life much easier for us. However, in an ironic twist, it ultimately detracts from human interaction. As people as constantly using their cell phones, they forget about the people around them at the moment. Dinnertimes are often interrupted by cell phone calls, detracting from what used to be a sacred time for family to relax and talk after a long day apart. As well, cell phones discourage individuals from meeting new people. Often now, if an individual is at a gathering where he or she does not know many people, he or she will pull out a cell phone and call or text a friend, as to avoid feeling lonely. In previous times, individuals would have been forced to introduce themselves to strangers and make new friends. Thus, the use of cell phones, while facilitating communication, leads to less human interaction within families and communities, ultimately causing greater divisions among a society.

Yet another notable invention o the last century is the automobile. Designed to make travelling easier and faster, it has done exactly that. It is rare to find an individual in North American who does not use a car or public transit to get around. However, despite its uses in making transportation easier, cars have had a detrimental effect on the physical health on humans. Whereas before, individuals were forced to travel by physical means such as walking or biking, now, all that is required is a push on the gas pedal and some steering. Over the years, this has contributed significantly to the decrease in exercise in North America, as well as the rise in obesity. Similar to the cell, the invention of the automobile has both eased our way of life, and caused new problems to arise.

In conclusion, the inventions of the cell phone and automobile have greatly facilitated our lives, but also created new problems.

i have a question: does anyone else have problems accessing the b.u.l.l.e.t.e.r website?

International student from Nigeria. I find writing essays quite challenging. My essay’s never sound appropriate! please help

Essay Prompt: Do we need other people to understand ourselves?

Man has been described as a social animal. that simply means that man is designed to live and co - exist with othrs of his type. Certainly, then, in order to fully understand himself, man has to interact with others. This fact is clearly demonstrated in the area’s of familiy life and school life.

In my family,I am the lastborn of five. My sibling have played a monumental role in my development. Playing with them, talking to them, working with them, all these have required that I display personal characteristeics like trust, cooperation, obedience. I recall vividly a say I was enjoying a game of soccer with my brothers. As the game went on, my brother being my senior, sed his greater weight to push me in order to gain an advantage. I felet really bad. When I think of it now, it is clear to me that the experience was enlightening, I got to learn that it was unpleasant to be pushed. At that moment, I got a better understanding of myself. If I had not had that interaction with my brother, I would not have understood that about myself.

At school,I meet a lot of people, from teachers to students to other workers. From the teachers, I get to learn how I originated. I am also taught what constitutes proper behaviour. When I do wrong, I get punished for it. Students talk to me and I talk to them. We enjoy class discussions. Different personalities with varied traits are observed by me. From my observations, I see what makes them sad and what makes them glad. I learn from them. I see countless similarities abetween my opinions and theirs. The differences are also obvious as well. The entire schooling experience helps me get to know myself better - know what I like and what I don’t like.

These associations help me to from my character. I also learn how to dal with others. From their reactions to my actions Ilearn how to behave acceptably.

It cannot be denied that for man to fully grasp himself, he needs the association and interaction of others. As Anne Shpard said understanding ourselves and understanding others are connected. Without the prescence of others, we would have no experiences and no memories. We would be blank as to who we really are. We need other to help us truly understand ourselves.

Well, I’m practicing for the SAT next week and am trying to figure out where my essay is. Please give a grade on the 1-6 scale. Also, any comments and suggestions would be appreciated!

Prompt:
“Given the importance of human creativity, one would think it should have a high priority among our concerns. But if we look at the reality, we see a different picture. Basic scientific research is minimized in favor of immediate practical applications. The arts are increasingly seen as dispensable luxuries. Yet as competition heats up around the globe, exactly the opposite strategy is needed.”
Adapted from Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Creativity: Flow and the Psychology of Discovery and Invention

Assignment:
Is creativity needed more than ever in the world today? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.

Essay (reproduced faithfully):
Creativity is paramount in today’s complex world. This is evidence in science, business, and art.

In science, creativity is extremely important because it allows unconventional solutions to problems. Many of the simple, straightforward scientific questions have been solved: we now understand many of the basic laws of the universe and technologies, such as microscopes and imaging tools, has allowed us to definitely answer simple questions sch as: what are we made of? While these questions confounded previous generations of scientists, their answers are creating new questions. Scientists are no wondering how our universe came to be. Questions like this can’t be resolved by mere experiment: they require scientists to speculate about unconventional answers, to think outside the box, to be creative.

Creativity is also needed more than ever in business. In today’s supercompetitive economy, anything that can be automated will be. As Malcolm Gladwell remarked in The New Yorker, “If a computer can do your job, you probably won’t have it tomorrow.” Thus, modern business demands employees who can think on their feet and come up with unconventional solutions everyday. Workers today need to leverage the skill computers can’t automate (yet): their creativity.

Artists, ironically, need to be more creative than they ever were before. We have always liked to surround ourselves with beauty, but traditional forms have been exhausted. Pastorals are a dime a dozen and photography has made the portrait practically extinct. To continue to push the envelope, artists such as Andy Schwarz need to be ever more creative, as he is with his vivisected animal exhibits.

The forces of globalization and technology have made our world ever more competitive. Therefore, creativity is indeed needed more than ever.

Is anybody still interested in grading the essays here? If not, I’ll just have to start a new thread when I get around to writing an essay :)

Grade my essay please?
This is the essay i wrote for the second practice test essay prompt in the blue book first edition .

Changes can occur that make our lives easier. This , however , does not mean that they make them better.Several examples from science and current affairs demonstrate this .

As man progressed scientifically , he devised may ways of making his life easier. His transportation time has reduced , his need to do manual work has almost been eliminated and he can communicate with people around the world in the blink of an eye. Inventions such as the car , the telephone and fast foods make life easier . If one is hungry , all one needs to do is simply go down to the nearest fast food restaurant and order a meal which is delivered in very quickly. While this undoubtedly reduces the hassle of cooking and preparing one’s own food , the ramifications of prolonged consumption are not immediate . Many children and adolescents have fast foods regularly . Studies have shown that indiscriminate consumption of such processed foods which are usually very high on fat content can cause severe obesity and it is now estimated that every one in 5 children is obese. This is a change that has made life easier , however , its long term effects do not make it simpler to live life. It may be shortened to as little as only 70 years .

Similarly , cars have been a marvel of the twentieth century . They have reduced travel times exponentially and are very useful . They have even been used to save lives in the form of ambulances. In all the aforementioned aspects , they have made life easier . However , one cannot help but point out that the use of automobiles which run on fossil fuels not only leads to their depletion , which deprives us of the utility of cars , but also contributes to a global phenomenon. This is known popularly as global warming. Scientists predict that if fossil fuel based cars are used so indiscriminately to run even our most basic errands that can otherwise be done by more environmentally friendly means , then there will be great environmental damage caused . Some have gone to the extent of saying that it may render the earth uninhabitable . While such postulations may be looked at with ridicule and those who support them may be derided , it is an undeniable fact that cannot be ignored for long. Another trouble that cars have brought with them is accidents . A lot of people each year lose their lives to road accidents . Thus even cars , which make our lives much easier , do not necessarily make them better.

Change which can make our lives ‘easier’ thus can potentially make our lives much worse. Indeed , it is true that the pace of technology and progress has made all of us feel rushed. As Karen Finucan , author of ’ Life in the fast lane ’ says " We have adopted the relentless pace of machines , and our lives have not changed for the better ".

Looking forward to feed back and would appreciate it .

Topic 2: Do people learn more from losing than from winning?
Topic 3: Should people always be loyal?

Uh… guys? I don’t think anyone’s still responding to requests for help here. I wouldn’t keep posting :)

Hello, could you also review my essay please? :)

Topic : Some people believe there is only one foolproof plan, perfect solution, or correct interpretation. But nothing is ever that simple. For better or worse, for every so-called final answer there is another way of seeing things. There is always a “however”.

Assignment: Is there always another explanation or another point of view? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on the issue.

Essay:

When we solve a problem,or plan or interpret something, we come up with ideas expressed from our point of view. However, it is very difficult to establish whether our solution is unique;in other words, there’s a “however”. I believe it is possible for people to come up with different points of view for several reasons.

Firstly, each person may have different trains of thought when dealing with an issue, whether it requires a subjective or objective solution. For instance, For instance, many literature texts are interpreted and reviewed by critics, although it is possible that many reviews can slightly alter the meaning the author had originally conveyed, or differ from each other in detail. Other examples can be found in anthropology. For example, a study suggested that a tribe from Central Siberia had many similarities with one in Southwestern United States, such as language and dialect. Some researchers believe that there had been a migration from Siberia into American territory, while others point out that this movement took place the other way around.

Secondly, coming up with a foolproof plan or a perfect solution requires a great deal of knowledge, thus one is likely to face a “however”. For example, I once handed in a math assignment, and the next day the teacher arrested my attention on the last problem. The teacher appreciated my solution, “however” he stated that the task could have been solved with a much shorter solution, which used concepts I hadn’t read about before. Regarding such matters which changed history, one striking example is Einstein’s theory of relativity. After Newton established the laws of classical mechanics, for many centuries and decades the scientific community believed that time is absolute. In other words, this idea conveyed that time was flowing at the same pace anywhere in the Universe. However, in 1905, Einstein proved this concept to be false. He argued instead that time is relative, thus building the foundation of the theory of relativity. This was a breathrough in the scientific field, consequently, the entire notion of time was put under a big question mark.

In conclusion, I believe it is impossible to label something as interpreted or planned in a unique way. Whether a task can be solved in an alternative way, it is not necessary that the original one is wrong.

r u still correcting essays?

Prompt: Should people take more responsibility for solving problems that affect their communities or the nation in general?

As John F. Kennedy once said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” These words have rung true many, many times throughout history. While governments can accomplish a lot, it is really the people that step up when they are needed most to solve the biggest problems and make the world a better place. From the civil rights movement to the Revolutionary War, the world would not be the same if it weren’t for these ever-important people.
One of the most famous examples of people stepping up to fix society’s problems is Rosa Parks. The famous story of her refusing to give her seat up to a white person has gotten her a ticket in every American history book. It was more than just refusing to get up; it was a show of defiance in protest against the segregation that had existed in the country ever since slavery was abolished. Her arrest and trial that found her guilty sparked huge protests and boycotts of busses. Eventually, claims filed by lawyers made it to the Supreme Court, which ruled that any person of any race could sit wherever they wanted to on a bus.
Rewinding the clock a bit, the Founding Fathers and the original delegates of the colonies were invaluable to the independence of America. As a result of people such as Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and John Hancock stepping up to lead the colonies in a revolution against Great Britain, which was at the time arguably the most powerful country in the world. Many of the colonists were extremely frustrated with Britain but did not think for a second that they needed independence. It was those that drew up the Declaration and those who led militias against Britain’s army (or redcoats as the colonists called them) that were the big factors in the American Revolution. Who knows? The US might have still been part of the United Kingdom today if it wren’t for those brave individuals that understood the best interests of all the colonists.
It is for this reason that I believe individuals stepping up to solve their community’s problems is extremely important to all societies. The world would be a bad place without them.

Thank you steamedrice! :)

P.S I know my examples are not accurate at all, please just ignore that aspect unless you think it really impacted my score.

Prompt: Does working with others lead to better results than acting as an individual? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.

Essay: Often times many people are accomplished as individuals, achieving notable success or are distinguished among their communities. Upon closer inspection, one realizes that the individual gains such results not from isolated preparations but from a cooperative group effort. Humans, as a whole, function as unique individuals cohesively living together in a communal setting. The sharing of ideas and working collaboratively produces results that reflect a union of a variety of thoughts, knowledge, and opinions. However, one must remain grounded in his own beliefs and resist complete adaptation of one’s own thinking to mirror his ideas with others. A balance of individualistic creativity and group cooperation leads to a multi- faceted and well considered result that is many times better than an isolated one angled perspective.

Take the Seneca Falls Convention in the mid 1800s as an example. Outstanding individuals, Lucretia Mott, Susan B. Anthony, and Frederick Douglas were all attendees. Lucretia took a liberal standpoint, advocating for women’s rights to be fulfilled in the immediate present; Susan B. Anthony grounded herself in a less aggressive standpoint by encouraging subtle changes in individual homes that would gradually culminate into a society where women could act with the independence and freedom they deserved. Frederick Douglas took yet another view that women’s rights should be actuated along with the abolition movement for slavery to increase public awareness. The end result was a combined effort- aggressive literary promotion, small scale familial changes, and broad scope advocacy with the well- publicized abolition movement, that furthered the women’s rights movement more than any previous efforts. It was this combined effort and individualistic stance that produced the most effective results, one that was as varied as the movement itself.

Yet another example presents itself in present day society- the work of renown TV show producer Shonda Rhimes. A principal producer for many shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, Shonda Rhimes develops her purpose and main theses for her shows and then expresses them to prospective directors, who through an integration of thoughts create a more diverse and complex meaning behind the shows. She meets with the actors and real life people the actors are portraying and after a big picture accumulation of all aspects of the show, she produces riveting, compelling, and relatable emotion- evoking shows that truly reflect the multi- perspective efforts of her work and the world portrayed through various points of view.

The community is simply a mixture of individuals and only when these individuals conjoin and actively share their beliefs and thoughts can a cohesive and well rounded community develop. Growth and maturity are defined by the ingredients of the people one meets, but the final product must be strained and refined to produce the best result.

Thank you so so much @steamedrice
