I'll be a senior in the fall and I plan to follow a premed track at Columbia. I've known about the school for a long time and I's really like to be admitted. I go to a NYC public school that has a science research program that is valued considerably high in the city. I've been in the program for 2 years now, but I've interned at a cellular biology lab since the summer of my sophomore year. I'm thinking about majoring in cellular biology because I've enjoyed researching very much. I've entered two science competitions with a project that I completed over the summer after sophomore year, although I didn't win. Despite this, my experiences in writing research papers and presenting my science poster at competition have helped me to overcome my fear of writing and speaking in public.

EC's:
Lab internship (July 2013-Present), so it will be 15 months long for college admissions
I've clocked in over 500 hours in the lab: 120 hours for my first summer and 70 hours for this summer. It's been an after school internship and so I've done two hours a day.
My lab specializes in fungal treatment and its a mix of molec bio, biochem, and cell bio.
I'm in the process of completing one more research paper and poster (a grand total of 2 each).
I've gone to two competitions and will attend three more before applying to college.
Homework help (Freshman-Junior)
I helped my younger brother with all of his homework. He is 5 years younger and has ADHD and was a late developer. As such, he needed a lot of help. My mom didn't know much English so she relied on me to help him with his studies.
Amnesty International (Sept 2013-July 2014)
I've attended most of the meetings and participated in its biggest event (GOTB), which I reported in my school's newspaper.
Newspaper (Oct 2013-July 2014)
I've been published 3 times by my school's newspaper, two have been written about science related activities.
I'm going to report for the paper next year.
College Now (Fall 2014)
I attended a Personal Finance class at a state university because I thought it'd help me in the future. I got a B+, mainly b/c it was sandwiched in between work and school.
Piano (Freshman year)
I practiced under a tutor for one year and competed at a state piano festival. I was graded in my performance and received high marks for my level. I practiced every day for at least an hour.

I'd appreciate it very much if I a fellow or former STEM student could give me their opinion of my chances or just tell me what they had to get into their school of choice. Thanks a lot for your help!
