Did anyone get an invite to this? I’m kinda leery of the summercampy feel im getting. Do people get invited based on their school and GPA cuz i have a pretty low GPA (3.4) so maybe theyre trying to say something…haha

I got no such invite...

Are you "socio-economically disadvantaged?" I think that's what its for. Do it though because people in STEP, usually get early pass times to pick classes.

I live in a very rich suburb an hour outside of LA. We have a very low income but i am in now way in a disadvantaged area.

Yeah. I meant no disrespect by that, that's the PC term that the UC uses most of the time. But yeah, STEP usually has to do with low-income, etc.

STEP stands for "Special Transitional Enrichment Program" - I attended in 2002. I really didn't want to, but my parents made me. I had a high GPA - 3.99. It's not about GPA.. it's about being a minority (or being poor). Step is to help otherwise underpriveledge people get a head start preparing for college so they will more likely graduate. Even if you don't think of yourself as a minority, or being underpriveledged, just go along with it.

I HIGHLY RECOMMENT YOU ATTEND. Not because you need to - but because if you do, you get priority registration for your classes for the next 6 quarters. What this means is that you will get into all the classes you want at the times you want because you register before everyone else - even seniors. I was NEVER waitlisted for a class or didn't get a section I wanted. If you have to suffer through a few weeks of classes for that - it's worth it.

Also, if you go to STEP, you can get into programs such as MURPPS (physical sciences), BUSP (biological sciences), and MORE (engineering) which sponsor you to do research with a professor of your choice starting spring of your freshman year. It is an invaluable experience. By the time you are graduating, you have 3 years of experience to put on your resume. For MURPPS, you get 2 units of class credit and $600/quarter.

Wow pearlinthemist that is an awesome program. I do agree that it is 100% worth doing. Priority registration is invaluable, and then add to it the money and research opportunities, and you would be foolish not to take advantage of this. Go for it!

i knew it! my friend had a hella low gpa and shes like *** is this?! the only thing i could posssibly think of was how poor she was. silly gurl...she was liek o this program is for smart people i think they accidently gave it to me. LAWL
