Submitted my SIR today, but not sure if I wanna do STEP. Since it is a month long event, does that mean we have to live on campus for a month and stay there? I plan on working full time over the summer to earn money for college so that would interfere with those plans. I also might go on a trip too. Basically, I would rather go to orientation (I feel that I’m ready for college), but I read you get priority registration for classes which would be really nice. I’m planning on majoring in English or psych maybe so I dunno if I would need that. Any thoughts?

Btw, when do we have to complete the tasks like setting up an email account and whatnot by? I only submitted my SIR but I am wondering if they would rescind my admission if I didn’t do anything else soon.

Going to STEP for the priority registration makes it worth it already, but if you need to work and save money, then you can always just do orientation. I would not attend STEP if you’re going to sacrifice making a good amount of money. However, that priority registration makes a world’s difference if your major is impacted.

Please note that the STEP offer is just an invitation to apply. It doesn’t mean you’ll automatically get in. A lot of my friends were rejected from the STEP program after accepting the invitation to apply.

Yes yes yes!
Giving up a month of your summer vacation does suck, but priority registration is priceless. I was never waitlisted for a class and always got my first preferences for sections while I had priority registration. (It made everyone else jealous). I didn’t care about college prep - I was ready.
Plus, you get to meet other students so when you start your real classes you will already recognize people & have familiar faces to sit next to & study with.

Granted, I didn’t need to raise money for school. But, you can look at it this way: with priority registration, you can book your classes all for decent times so that you will have most of the day free to work at a part time job.

I doubt they’d rescind your acceptance for failing to set up an email address. They should be able to help you with that at orientation or STEP if you haven’t figured it out. The other requirements like housing have separate deadlines. You register for classes at STEP - and it’s still priority registration despite it being after orientation times, so you’d get into classes others have been waitlisted for :P
