recycle, I have a child at NYU and also one at U of T! Given the choices your child has, and they are wonderful choices!, I would wholeheartedly recommend that he choose U of T. U of T is an excellent school and he will undoubtedly find himself surrounded by students of the same calibre as he would find at NYU. The financial aspects are just too great to ignore, $50,000+ in U.S. dollars per year (and the fees increase EVERY year!) vs $12,000-15,000 in Canadian dollars. Just no comparison.

You said that the opportunity to work in the U.S. after going to school there and before grad school would be an advantage, and you are right. However, international students cannot just stay in the U.S. and work, without arranging a new visa for that purpose, which, I can guarantee you, is not always easy.

Stern is an excellent school, don't get me wrong, but I think that with the options your child has, U of T is the better one at this point in his life. Living in NYC is NOT for everyone. I've lived in both places and Toronto is much more pleasant. The campus at U of T is one of the most beautiful I've seen, in either country. My daughter loves it there and wouldn't trade it for NYU for any amount of money. My other daughter who is at NYU is there because she's at Tisch, and for theatre, New York is the right place for her. Have you and your son visited NYU? I would not recommend anyone accepting an offer there without visiting.
