Stern or Warton or other

I am a junior in high school.

So far from my first two years, i have a weight average of 4.1. by the end of this year i expect a 4.3 GPA. my otherall unweighted average is a 95. i dont know my class rank but i am positive i am in top 10 percentile

I took SAT II US History in my sohomore year without taking US History 2 and still managed a 790, 98th percentile

I am gonna take both SAT II Math IC and IIC this november and december

Though i am not sure if i can get full score, i can garantee a 750(my average practice test score is around 780)

I am expected to score a 2100( from the college board tests i get around a 780 math, 650 reading and a 700 writing)

I am taking Calc AB AP
Economics AP(macro and Micro)
AP US history 2

I will take ap calc bc, stat ap, literature ap, and physics ap next year.

i have about 100 hours of community service
i am a officer of key club international
member of the math club 9th and 11th
ran cross country sohomore and junior year and most likely will run next year
gonna do winter and spring track my junior and senior year
tv club sohomore year
history and government all 3 years
member of school band

family back ground

i am chinese. i am a first generation immigrant. my dad has a MD and my mom has a BS.

So from this and my expected academic performance do you think i have a chance at Wharton. my parents want me to apply early admission to that school but i want to go to stern. They are paying for college so they get their say in this kind of stuff. Do you think i have a slight chance at wharton?

If not what other financial powerhouse do you suggest

pretty big reaches...both of them.

however, apply because you stil have a chance.

i forgot

i am also in the speech and debate

though i am not official yet, the head of the NHS and the Math Honor society already told me I am in.

Can you list what I need to work on please? I really want to go to one of them. I will be willing to work hard so list anything i can do to make my resume better, even if it is a bit crazy

you need some insane sat scores for even a chance here. first of all, asian works against you. second you have a dad with an md. that works against you. I seriously urge you to consider state colleges. I think the whole system is working against us asians. In the unlikely chance you get in, you will be stuck with a hefty 45k bill each year. A 2100 is even below average for wharton. Also, your gpa, rank, and extracurriculars are a bit plain and generic. You are like the average applicant in everything, maybe even a little weaker. Nothing stands out. That being said, apply to these schools anyways. That is what I am doing. I will apply and hope to get in. I will go in the extremely unlikely chance that I get a reasonable financial aid package, otherwise its the state school. You have a better chance at stern, but that is still not so good. Still a medium to large reach.

So get some insane sat scores like (2350 at the very least, 800s in sat iis), write a beastly essay, and suck up to the teachers for a great rec. Do that for a reasonable chance.

Don't take both Math IC and IIC. Just get 800 on IIC. 800s on IC and IIC mean nothing...

gj, you just totally contradicted youreslf in that last post

"Just get 800 on IIC. 800s on IC and IIC mean nothing..."?

upenn is a reach, always, for wharton. for any student. ivies are never safeties. but apply , give it a shot. and work on those essays.

He didn't contradict himself, he just meant to say that getting an 800 on the II and the I is the same as getting an 800 on the II alone.

i honestly do not think i can get higher than 2250 but i can without a doubt get 5 on all my APs because I am beastly in all the subjects I take.

What is like the minimum SAT for Stern?

What other easier finance orientated business schools should i look at. assume that money isnt a major issue. What top finance schools do you think i can get into. please dont go below top 10.

I went to Stern's open house. The SAT range is 1940 - 2140

is that for NYU as a whole or just stern school of business

what you mean range like 25 percentile to 75 percentile?

So what did they say is a good score?

what SAT IIs did they say they want

I don't see how Stern is a reach....his GPA is high and his SAT is average. His ECs are a little below average too. I see Stern as a match :S

I am gonna go in depth all my stuff and reorganize my stuff because it is a mess

As of end of sohomore year without APs my weighted GPA is roughly 4.1. With my AP classes I expect 4.3 by the end of my junior year and even higher by the end of my senior year. my school only allow junior and seniors to take AP. We are limited to 3 AP junior year and 4 senior year.

I expect 5s on all my APs because I am a expert on the topics which I am taking APs.

number wise my average at the end of my sohomore year was a 95.
I know I am in top 10 percentile.(my school still havent listed the ranks yet so i am clueless on where I exactly stand) i am top 10% for sure though

SATs

I expect a 2100 on my SAT reasoning

I have only 100 hours of service at the local hospital as of right now.
I plan on having at least 200 hours of service.

I am Chinese. I speak it fluently. I learned that first. I am a natulized citizen. My dad has a MD and my mom has a BS.

I am thinking about applying to Wharton or Stern. I can only pick one for early dicision. any chance what so ever that i will make it. Which one should I pick

they dont list the average SAT score for specific programs. anyone know the 75th percentile SAT score for these two business schools.

any alumni or current student of these two schools willing to share their SAT score.

Any other suggestions for business schools?

Suggestions?

oh yeah money is not a major issue with me so you can factor that aspect out.

I would apply to Wharton ED. I think you'll get into Stern regular decision, so you should use up your ED for a reach school.

I am also looking at a number of other schools because sometimes you fail at what you want to achieve. remember i want to do finance so i am trying to get into the school's business program

schools i want to go to.
New York University(Stern)
UPenn(Wharton)

Schools i am also looking into.
Indiana University–Bloomington (Kelley)
Ohio State University–Columbus (Fisher)
Carnegie Mellon
U. of North Carolina–Chapel Hill (Kenan-Flagler)
University of Texas–Austin (McCombs)
University of Virginia (McIntire)
Univ. of Southern California (Marshall)

tell me your honest opinions on these schools

adiditional information

I live in New Jersey. I attend a public school. my graduating class is about 200+.

I think you should go for Wharton ED. I think you have a very good shot at Stern RD anyway

What about all the other schools. I need other options in case i do fail to get into stern or wharton.

As for the other schools, I'd say you have a great shot at all of them. CMU would be my first choice of the ones you list - their computational finance is well respected.

You're missing a key school though. One of the best back-ups for Wharton is U Michigan (Ross). You don't apply directly to the B-school, typically you apply in your sophomore year and then do all business classes your last two years opf undergrad. If you're ambitious you can apply as a freshmen and therefore graduate in 3 years. Ross undergrads are hired by all major ibanks and consulting firms in pretty good numbers (not quite as high as Wharton, but close). I'm sure you'd get into U Mich and assuming you can manage A or A-s in the intro econ and accounting classes, the B-school should let you in.

I know grads of both Stern and Ross, and I think their grads do equally as well in recruiting.

I think both Stern is a low reach/match and Wharton is a big reach.

btw, u r not 1st gen. ur parents have degrees. degrees even in china DO NOT count as 1st gen.
