Stern Proficiency Tests

Am I allowed to take the proficiency tests for Finance and Marketing without having taken those courses before? I'm fairly confident that I could study on my own and pass them.

i have not heard of exams that let you place out of those classes. i know the finance and marketing classes have case studys, which can be really time-consuming, so i dont think nyu would let you out that easy.

"Proficiency exams are required for incoming transfer students who want to receive credit for Statistics, Marketing and Finance courses taken at their previous school. These exams must be taken by October 10th, 2008 during the student's first semester at Stern. After this date, students will be required to retake the courses at Stern."

It doesn't say something like, "if and only if you have taken these courses previously can you take the proficiency tests."

still, from that paragraph it seems like it is only for people who have taken the course before, even if it doesn't say if and only if. of course i have not seen any rule stating that there are no proficiency exams for such students, i will still be pretty surprised if there are. i remember when i took the stats proficienty exam, it was stated that the only people who can sit for it were students who have already taken it or people who got a 4/5 on the AP. but i do not know what the current rules are.

Are you a transfer student? If not, no, you can't place out.

Ah yeah, I'm a transfer student, but I haven't taken the courses. What I want to know is whether they would let me take a shot at the proficiency tests without having taken the courses previously.

Why have that just for transfers. Wny not let all Sternies just take proficiency tests. Get your 4 year degree in half the time. Lol.
