Stern vs. Tepper

The point is that Pittsburgh offers many free/discount stuff for college kids while NYU does not. How much was it for Broadway tickets again? Over here it is 5 bucks for a top notch CFA play.

Man you guys are really stubborn (remember the huge thread about Stern vs Ivies?) :)

salary should not be a factor for comparing two very good business schools, because they can be pretty variable and a couple hundred dollars don't make a large impact. go whereever you wish, in the end if you do well, you are going to come out on top. i still think NYU gives more bang for the buck than CMU, but again that is my biased opinion. yes i am stubborn, not really, its really a case of school pride.

I never said it was. :) Read my first few responses.

I even said that students should not pick schools based on salary alone as both schools offer great opportunities and that it all depends on how individuals perceive the environment. Obviously I prefer the ability to double major (CS for me) and the traditional college campus/college city while others LOOOOVE NYC (and yes even I want to work there when I graduate).

It all depends on the individual.

i never said you did :) i agree ^^^^^^^. its nice to come to a mutual agreement. i have to get away from college confidential and study calc.

Bump for the kids interested.

AcceptedAlready!
i give you huge props!

Haha thanks.

Well, if you're worried about lack of companionship at Tepper, from what I hear at Tepper you ARE allowed to make friends with kids in the other schools (who would have thought). With Stern, I heard that the students there are the biggest bunch of independent, competive schmucks around. If you'd like to hear an interesting story, I know two girls who went to Stern together (they're best friends). They both hated it and wanted to transfer out after their freshman year, because neither of them had any friends because the kids in Stern were so competitive and didn't want to be distracted by petty things such as friends while they were vying for opportunities in the city. However, one girl's parents would not let her transfer and said she had to finish up at Stern. Because her friend was not allowed to transfer, the second girl did not transfer either, because if she left her best friend would be all alone in cruel Stern.

And I'm not biased. I'm not going to Stern nor Tepper, but I did have Tepper ranked way above Stern on my list of choices because those two girls are not the only ones who brought me bad attitudes about Stern.

now this is propoganda. what competition first year? they must be pretty stupid and drunk. you are taking required courses first year, no Stern courses. there is no curve to compete against, imagining competition when there was none? she must have failed a couple of courses, and when people don't do well they tend to blame other aspects to not feel guilty themselves. if that was the case majority of the students who get offers to attend would turn it down and that is certainly not the case.

I went and found the people really pretty nice. Sure, who doesn't want an internship at Goldman Sachs. But still, they're PEOPLE. The whole independent/competitive/unfriendly thing is just BS, similar to how everyone thinks cornell has a ton of suicides when it's suicide rate isn't actually that high (much lower than harvard and MIT).

About the stupid and drunk thing, iunno.....but I know this girl from my school who is going to NYU stern and she's not anything to write home about intelligence-wise.

"not biased" - That is the worst joke I have heard in a while.

the sweetest part of this little story was that the girl decided to stay back, just so to make sure her dumb friend doesn't die in "cruel" Stern. there is no such thing as you're no allowed to transfer, where would you transfer if you don't have the grades to transfer?

I didn't say NYU wouldn't let her transfer - her PARENTS didn't let her transfer.

And don't take my story as an example of EVERYONE's experience at Stern. That's just two girls.

I think sarah just provided her own experiences. The "official" argument should've ended with me and legion a few posts ago on the 2nd page :)

Opinions and anecdotes are always helpful and welcomed as long as people realize that they are not generalizations.

I am going to Tepper!!! I just enrolled 1 minute ago!

Congrats, feel free to PM me if you have any questions/concerns.

Oh and I missed an earlier post which said we shouldn't rely too much on the mean. I totally agree with this which is why I have concentrated more on the median (55k) since anyone who has taken Intro to Stats knows that the Median is a much better indicator when there are heavy outliers. However since the mean and median in this case do not vary by much, we can conclude that there are not many outliers (though I still prefer using the median).

I loved Tepper!! I did not get in Stern....no clue why...but I loved the whole campus feel and all the students were great!

thanks for the info, acceptedalready...where are you deciding to go?

I'm already here :)

tepper? how do you like it there?
