Steve Irwin is dead

Big deal....so what if hes gone?? When the people on 9/11 were killed, did you folks cry over that ? please...give it a break...Steve was another typical crazy animal person...im sure the crocidiles are now happy hes not around :) at least their safe from being terrorized by him ! ...think about it...

^^you have no soul.

I feel terrible for his wife and kids. :( What a freak accident--and a tragedy.

I HAVE NO SOUL???:( HOW DARE YOU!!

Do you have any sympathy for the poor wild animals that Steve has punished and tortured throughout the years on tv?? I'm an animal lover..and I dont like it when folks use crocidiles and snakes for their own entertainment..its wrong and it sends the wrong message to children, that messing around with dangerous animals is safe and okay in our society...shame on him. That stingray got revenge
if anything...I dont hate on Steve or his fans, his family personally, but if you believe in god or karma, this was coming to Steve sooner or later...He decided to go swimming , its not our fault

Hush, child.

While I don't agree with his behavior on the show, I have to disagree with Apple. You obviously have no idea how active he was politically for conservation and other environmental issues. The Australian government listened to and respected him, even sent him as an ambassador to George Bush in 2003. He was a good man, a husband, and a father of two. Regardless of his television antics, a lost human life is a lost human life. We mourn the deaths of celebrities, it's the modern way. We mourn especially those who actually gave back.
So, rest in peace, Steve.

apple69,

i'm sure everyone was much more upset about 9/11, so don't imply that no one was. that's just retarded. and yes this is just some random dude, but hey, people like him and the thread is about him. you can get upset about a ton of different things on a ton of different levels. duh. if there was a thread saying the production of Drumsticks ice cream would be stopped, i'd be posting a whiny message about how ridiculously upset i was. but i digress...

steve did a lot for the conservation of alligators and other animals as well, in case you didn't know. maybe you should read up on a guy before you criticize him. he saved a lot of crocs, not totured them. his show educated many on animals that everyone thinks are just plain evil and should die.

um, yes, i think we know that. pretty much everything you said we know.

apple69:

Did you watch any of his shows? He was an advocate for the animals - especially the ones many people think should just be exterminated like poisonous snakes, crocs, alligators, etc. Sure he hammed it up a bit for the cameras but all in all he did a great service to these animals in showing people that they have a place in the world. He's done far more good for these animals than the vast majority of so-called 'animal lovers'.

It's also in very poor taste to respond to someone's death with a 'so what'.

And Apple, as much as you deserve it, I promise not to say "so what?" when you die.

apple69, you need to watch what you say man. Steve Irwin was an amazing individual who risked his life daily to show people like you and me the beauty of the animal world. As an Aussie myself, I can say wholeheartedly that this is a tragic loss for the conservationist world and even sadder loss for the nation of Australia. May he rest in peace...

Apple, you're not alone in your thinking.

Well obviously Steve Irwin had it coming! We ALL have it coming! Death's a human thing and I'm pretty sure a guy who goes after dangerous animals for a living knows his occupational hazards even better than we do. He ran a zoo. He's not some uneducated hick. He knew the dangers--the admirable thing is, he did it all anyway, for the sake of the animals.
Apple and tourguide, you obviously haven't read much about his work as an environmentalist/conservationist?

I feel so sad about his passing away. I watched his show all the time. If there is one thing good that comes out of this tragedy, it is probably going to be the increased global awareness of the conservation of wildlife.

Some people say he is crazy, but I think he did what he had to in order to get the audience's attention so that he could dessiminate his ideas of conservation. I seriously hope that they still continue the show because even though the show would be different, I would hate to see it end.

Apple: I bet Steve Irwin could have kicked your ass.

The issue isn't about whether Steve Irwin's policies and procedures for dealing with the animals on his documentaries were correct, it's about having human compassion for the family he left behind and the life he ended prematurely.

And, yes, I certainly felt the same way for those affected by the terrorist attacks of 9/11 (response to apple's ridiculous allegation).

i always thought he was invincible too. damn.

:( :( :( :( :(

apple... you are lame and a poor excuse for a human

Apple, I see where you're coming from but you're also tragically uneducated about this particular matter. I think there were two distinct sides to Steve Irwin. On film, I always saw him as more of an 'entertainer' than a nature journalist. Hence, how he would fit what you described - and I don't disagree with any of it.

But away from the camera, he ran a successful zoo and did great things for both land and animal conservation. He bought large areas of land in Australia, Fiji, Vanuatu and the US to keep as 'national parks'. A different style to the same man on screen tackling and chasing animals.

I am not a huge fan of his show, but I used to watch it occasionally. Fellow seemed to have a passion for animals. Never thought that he would die, being a rugged australian and all. At least he died doing what he liked. He did a service to us all.

:(
I heard this news yesterday and I actually found it pretty sad. I thought Steve was a great guy and he always did his work with so much genuine passion.

RIP Steve.
