Wow, I am so depressed now. We just got back from touring CCPA and loved it. I am from Chicago and feel comfortable sending D there because of family and friends but yikes it is so expensive. They told us they only have talent awards and no merit scholarships. I did not ask how common talent awards were but so far I know of two friends who’s Ss have awards ranging from $15-20K a year. Anyone with a D know how common it is for girls to get anything?

I don’t know how common it is, but we know a girl (this year) who received a $10,000 scholarship. So some girls do get scholarships. Does your daughter want Voice Emphasis or Dance Emphasis? This girl in the fall (of 2014) will be an MT, Dance Emphasis. I don’t know if one weighs more than the other.

Thank you @BethsMom, my D would be MT, Voice Emphasis, which I would expect is the more common. We talked with them about having Acting as a “second choice” and they said yes and just to call them when you apply and let them know what you want to do. There is a lot of crossover between MT and Acting which is one of the things we really like about CCPA. I know that you can’t assume acceptance, let alone talent awards, it just helps to know that they actually give money!

@evilqueen, we were quoted that figure (it was $52K last year), and I think that they significantly over-estimate “other expenses.” (books are maybe $200 a term, not $1000, for instance, kids buy clothes at thrift shops, not Macys, etc.). Also bear in mind that many of the kids live off campus by sophomore year, which can take $12,000 in room and board down to $6000 or $7000. Still expensive, but not as.

I second what @jkellynh17 says about expenses, our D is moving to an apartment with 3 of her classmates (the freshman theatre students are moving off campus en masse it seems) which will save money. Book requirements are much less than for other majors.

As far as talent awards, D was offered a small award, not nearly what she was offered in merit money from other schools to be honest (seemed like a waste of that lovely SAT score and GPA ) We did contact Patrick Z and request a review of the amount and received some more. It never hurts to ask!

I know a girl who was offered a $15k scholarship this year (for all 4 years). MT voice emphasis at CCPA.

Thank you @Jkellynh17 and @austinmt for the insight. D is very motivated to work on her audition pieces over the summer and very excited about CCPA. I hope she is invited to join your talented kids at this wonderful school! Very high on our list.

It was my daughter’s first choice going into auditions :(

*CCU, TSU, WSU, JMU (IS), UNC and FSU (OOS), Elon figures are from school websites; hopefully someone with a FA award letter will update them
^ RCS: BA program is only 3 years. Figure does not include international travel costs.

Loved Viterbo’s financial aid award letter listing $25k worth of student loans per year as an “award”. If you have to pay it back it’s not really an award. Talk about putting lipstick on a pig!

Too funny cheeseheadmike! When we received the financial award letter, I was out of town so I asked my daughter to relay the amount to me. She read it with the loans included in the award not aware that was the case. I got all excited and had her send me a picture of it. When I got home I taught her how to read future “award” letters.

Hey Big Cheese! We’re missing you on the FB group! Come on board! Please?

LOL @cheeseheadmike totally agree with that. One of our award letters same thing shows us owing nothing after the big student loan!!
