Still a chance?

Hi. I’m currently a junior in high school. My dream schools are UCLA and USC. I attend a pretty good Private school, probably the best school in my area. I started out low freshmen year but have boosted my greases since then. Here are my stats:
Freshman year: ~ 88 average
Sophomore year ~91 average (94 average last semester)
Junior year: 97.38 average first semester ( including a 100 in APUSH)
EDIT: I also do have a legitimate excuse for the lower grades freshman and part of sophomore year, but that is personal and I won’t be sharing.

Extracurricular:
Varsity Golf
Varsity Squash
Young Democrats Club (Most likely president next year)
Broadcasting Club
Model UN
Mock Trial
Youth and Government
Youth Leadership Group (outside of school)
100+ hours volunteering
Service Trip

Test Scores:
Have not received my PSAT back yet, but should be mid 1400s if i got a similar score to the official practice test.
I know this won’t help me get into college, but it is just a benchmark.

Any chance of still getting in if I keep my average up this year?

a good upward trend in your academics is always good. if yore still worried then id suggest get your sat score higher other than that i feel like its a match

Other schools I am interested in:
LMU
UCSB
UCSD
UCI
Dartmouth (Really reaching, but my dad went there)
BC
USF (San Fran not South Florida)
Notre Dame
NYU

Until you have your final GPA at the end of Junior year and a official SAT/ACT score, it is impossible to give you an idea of your chances. You are heading in the right direction, just realize that UCLA/USC are tough admits so all you can do is your best in your courses, take a rigorous HS curriculum and enjoy participating in you EC’s. Come back at the end of Junior and then posters can give you a better idea of your chances.

FYI: The UC’s only consider a-g courses in their GPA from 10-11th so they will help your chances. https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

Also make sure you know your college budget before applying and you and your parents run the Net Price calculators on all schools of interest to give you a good estimate your costs to attend.

NYU is notorious for giving little to no financial aid, so expect to be close to full fees.

Best of luck.

Note: According to the UC calculator, my UC GPA is a 3.92 UW and 4.17 W
My school does not offer that many AP classes for kids before senior year (Only 4 unless you go to school over the summer or started a year ahead in science, something I couldn’t do since my Elem school didn’t offer earth science)

All UC’s look at the capped weighted UC GPA (max 8 semesters of honors points) but UCLA and UCB will also look at your fully weighted UC GPA (unlimited semesters of honors points). If your school does limit the AP classes you can take, then you will not be penalized.

Ok, thanks. I went and looked at Berkeley and hated it, so I’m not applying there.
