i have some advice. get out of here. run away, run far away and dont think about college until youre in 11th grade. if you start molding yourself to the way you think colleges will want you, you'll just get rejected anyways. now go.

As a sophomore, no one has a dream college. I'm willing to bet good money your mind will change. And ditto on what flimxoxo17 said. Dedicate and involve yourself in things you actually care about, don't set yourself up for disappointment by trying to fit a mold or preconception on 'what they're looking for', because no one knows what the hell they're looking for. It's all a crapshoot.

Filmxoxo17- That was GREAT advice. I agree.

I'm not looking to fit that obsessive compulsive college 'mold' everyone applying to Harvard seems to be going after. The activities I have listed, I actually care deeply about...my writing (I hope to go into journalism), basketball and field hockey since elementary school, student council from elementary and on, hospital work because my family has always been surrounded by the medical profession, and anti-drug programs because my dad had a drug and alcohol problem...

And I take those courses because I love a challenge and to be around people who are hard-working.

I've been looking into NYU since 7th grade because I visited the campus, spoken to people who loved it, and have read up a lot on what they have to offer. I was impressed and would love to go someday...

And yes, I agree, my mind might change...after all, I've also had my eyes on other places. But as of now, I'm setting my goal for NYU, and just wanted to know my chances...

That's all.

I usually don't respond to threads like these because clearly the person knows they have a chance, so here's my response: don't worry.

You seem to be on the right track, but as others have voiced, you should worry about your school work and passions outside of school - rather than worrying which school to apply to, etc. NYU is a great school, but keep your options open; in my case, I've been keeping a list of colleges I want to apply to next year, and all 10 colleges which were on that list in May 2004 have ALL been replaced by November 2004. Although it may not be as drastic for you, it just shows that once you do more research and know what your major is, you can then go forward in your college search.

Good luck!

Thanks Cash'd!

Yeah, I know, I'm more than likely going to change my mind...

NYU is my first choice, but I'm also interested in Boston University, Northwestern, TCNJ, George Washington University, Sarah Lawrence, and a few others...so, you see, it's really not NYU NYU NYU NYU for me...And to be honest, school is important...but I know it's not my entire life...I'm concerned about college because I'd really love to have the best chance at my career early on...journalism, mainly, though I've been interested in law and politics lately...

Chill out! You're a soph!!!

Mo def chill out...go play...pick up Fiske in the spring MAYBE...just be happy-colleges like happy, confident people

The Bends.... you a radiohead fan? it would be awesome if you.

Get some real PSAT/ SAT scores and come back here.

No Westinghouse win or Intel finalist? [/sarcasm]

"i have some advice. get out of here. run away, run far away and dont think about college until youre in 11th grade. if you start molding yourself to the way you think colleges will want you, you'll just get rejected anyways. now go." FILM!

i like that advice..sweeeeet...you end up loosing your character or a life..which i think is important..if your only into school..not cool...

Wow.. How did you even find this place now..?

Hmm.. I wonder if I wish I found CC when I was in grade 10.. NAHHHH !!! NO WAY!!!.... Go and live your life girl.. or .. boy!

Even me (who is the ultimate College obssessive.. Columbia-obssessive to be exact) only got like this now.. in grade 12.
And I only started to truly think about.. and consider unis in grade 11.. And only knew what the SATs were in January 2004 (grade 11).

Sooooooooooooo.. bottom line is.. go out and enjoy your life... you don't need the stresses of the college process so early on.
Do what you love and live for yourself... And somehow everything piles together in a lovely amalgamation that looks great on your college app.

Go away, you're a sophomore. Let me repeat: you're a sophomore, worry about college your junior/senior year.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! To put it straightforwardly... Yes Todd.. well said...

I disagree with those who say don't think about college til 11th grade. To some extent you can't get school specific because you haven't taken the SAT/ACTs but visiting large/small, rural/urban, warm/cold, diverse/sheltered campuses will give you a much more narrow search when it comes time to search in 11th grade. Also, get with your guidence counselor and make it clear that you expect him/her to do his/her job. My guidence counselor is so lazy and I wish I had a different one but because I only started talking to her at the end of 11th grade, it is now nearly impossible.

Good luck, but don't focus too much on one school like NYU... even with seemingly good stats, you can be rejected and we don't want you to be completely crushed because that's all you've ever dreamed of.
