Still hope for me to become a doctor?

<p>So i just finished high school and my gap is a 3.1 altogether.... I honestly feel i procrastinated so much and never actually tried. My whole life i wanted to be a doctor, and I just want to know even if i go to a state undergrad university can i still be a doctor? Also, when do u guys recommend I start studying for the MCAT, if i want a 35. Also can you tell me some good coerces to take in college to ready me for it..... finally any tips on how I can get above a 3.6 gap. I know many get over a 3.6, but me i screwed my high school life and i want to change in college please help me out...</p>

<p>You can always get your grades up. But do you have the commitment to be a doctor? Do u really want to practice medicine, or do u just like the idea of being a doctor?</p>

<p>When I was a student, I intially thought I wanted to be a doctor (doctor = respect, high income, drive nice car) until I realized I’d have to treat sick whining people for the rest of my life.</p>

<p>You can probably squeeze into a good state school with a 3.1, so I wouldn’t give up just yet. In the end your high school grades won’t matter when you apply for med schools. </p>

<p>It’s never too soon to prepare for the MCAT, although I recommend focusing on adjusting to college life and studying for your classes as opposed to spending time studying for it just now - you have plenty of time ahead of you to do so. Most of your medical school prerequisite courses should adequately prepare you for it, so I’d look at the requirements for a school you’re interested in and see where that leads you. </p>

<p>Just know that your college courses will be much harder than high school courses and med school is even more difficult. Procrastination will make things harder and it helps if you know for sure being a doctor is what you want to do. I also recommend considering some good fall back plans in case being a doctor doesn’t work out in the end. Allowing yourself other options definitely eases the pressure off of yourself. </p>
