Still Pending

@cameraqueen

We finally heard today that S was waitlisted. Yes, it was for the film school. We’re so disappointed. This has been such a long wait, and he really had his heart set on Chapman for over a year. He’s also waitlisted at NYU. Now we have to choose between North Carolina School of the Arts and Emerson. Anyone know anything about either of their film programs?

Has anyone who is a transfer heard back from Chapman yet? I applied as a Finance major and they e-mailed me almost 2 weeks ago asking for a Progress Report from my Calc professor, which I gave them that day…they have not updated my webadvisor and yes, checking the website obsessively and the mail is driving me crazy!

My son is still waiting to hear but seeing that filmparent heard and it’s a waitlist gives me now no hope…my son is still ‘decision pending’. We visited NCSA and my son loved it. He tried for their acting program and his audition didn’t go well and he was rejected but he wished he had put more love into his audition because he felt after visiting that it was as good if not better than all his other options. So I would say NCSA rather than Emerson if for no other reason than the level of commitment from the other kids…

FYI for film transfer hopefuls: We were told recently that decisions would probably not be made until mid-May. So relax!

@filmparent

I’m so sorry to hear about the wait list. It’s so hard after all of the effort and waiting. My D’s webadvisor status changed today to “decision complete”. After reading all of the threads I guess we won’t truly know what the outcome is until we receive notification in the mail. However, if Chapman is a no, then I think my d will go to LMU.

I don’t know about North Carolina, but I do know a junior who is at Emerson in Musical Theatre and his parents say that he loves it, but I don’t know anything about the Film Program. Good luck with the decision.

My son received the dreaded “decision complete” message so that as we all know now means he is out. Wish they would have told us two weeks ago along with the acceptances so that he could have psyched himself up for his other options. Seems so wrong somehow to have left these poor kids hanging like that.

I’m a transfer and have yet to hear back. I’m a psych major, and when I went in for an interview they said I might even hear before the spring semester is over…which implies that I might not even hear back before that. So it might be a longer wait than we had anticipated. Hopefully, it works out for the best. Do we have to SIR by June 1st?

I am still pending! it’s almost the middle of April…

@thebonj Don’t assume “Decision Complete” means a rejection. It could mean wait-listed. Last I checked my son’s status still said “decision pending,” even though the director of admissions called the director of his high school (who had been calling to check) to say that he was wait-listed. We still haven’t gotten a letter in the mail. I agree, it seems almost cruel to have made some of these kids wait so long, and I don’t know why they don’t send out all their decisions at once. My son’s guidance counselor, who used to work in Admissions at several prestigious colleges, said that nothing about Chapman’s admissions process has been typical!

We went to visit Emerson on Friday. Definitely not for him. The academics don’t seem challenging (“The Physics of Media,” for instance, will satisfy your science requirement. Emerson’s film program seems more geared toward the business of film, rather than creative. Will visit North Carolina School of the Arts at the end of the month. Looks like it’s a much more creative filmmaking program, geared toward directing, screenwriting and cinematography; where Emerson seemed much more geared to the producing and technical side of the industry.

I really like the UNCSA- we have a friend who is there right now and cannot say enough good about it. My son tried to get into the their acting program which was probably a mistake in hindsight as it is so so hard to get into and he just loved the atmosphere there once he visited for his audition. I am very envious that you have that as an alternative to Chapman. FYI - still no letter and it’s two weeks before we need to say where our son is going to go to college. Completely crazy.

We still haven’t received a letter either. Insane! Son submitted his application in November! We only know about the waitlist because the director of his school called the Admissions office. Glad to hear your son liked UNCSA. I know that acting program there is incredibly competitive. I used to be an actress and would have loved to have gone there, but didn’t even bother auditioning, knowing my chances of getting in were slim to none. Perhaps not getting in to Chapman will turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Looking forward to our visit at the end of the month. We’re sending in our deposit today, sight unseen.

If they can’t get a letter out within days of their website announcement why oh why don’t they just tell kids right there on the website what their answer is (like most colleges do now). Wouldn’t that be simpler? This letter business is really laughable. And how are they sending these missives? By camel? I know it sounds like sour grapes but I cannot share my son’s enthusiasm for Chapman based on this nonsensical admissions process.

My son had the same, and then it said “decision made” , three days later he was wait listed!

Chapman had 8000 applications for 1000 spots, it took forever just to get wait listed

My son’s college advisor at his high school worked for many years in admissions at a couple of prestigious colleges. Her take on the Chapman application process was that everything about it was highly unusual. Here’s what she wrote to me this week:

“Again, there are so many peculiar things about their admissions process. I hate to say it, but I can’t help but wonder what the rest of the school is like. Being placed on the waitlist with a phone call is odd enough, but to not have an official letter by this late date is unprecedented. I don’t know what else to say!”

I think it is just that so many kids apply to a bunch of LA schools, then take the best one that accepts them. Chapman is left scrambling to figure how many places it actually has available after April 1st, then fills them when the applicants that refuse their offer finally give Chapman that information. I think it is sort of a wait list without actually telling the applicants.

Not fun.

im a transfer and im still pending too! its killing me im checking everyday haha

Transfer here too. It’ll take much longer for us to hear back than freshman applicants.

I’m a transfer too! still pending as of 4/15
checking everyday too!!

did they ask you for a progress report?

I’m also a transfer student. I checked Web Advisor yesterday and I now have “decision complete.” So I’m crossing my fingers here, hopefully I will get in, but I am mentally preparing myself for the worst. Good luck all!
