Still waiting for financial aid

i don't believe in Jesus or any gods, but i am praying almost every hours now to have a generous finanical package from USC. it's a life decision. it will certainly affect my life forever. The situation here is, if I can go to USC, I will most probably (95%) settle in CA for at least the 10 years after graduation. but if I am to stay at home Boston, I will be stucked in the east coast for my whole life (I am pretty sure that will be the case since i am not those who likes to travel far for no particular reason).

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let you guys know not to worry too much about not receiving your aid packages yet...continuing students don't even have their paperwork due for another month, so it isn't like they are running out of money.

I have always felt that USC is very generous with giving out grant money, and our endowment continues to grow every year.

PEALS-05, did your father end up going to SC? I'm in a similar situation (high EFC). Let me know what your aid package looks like when complete.

I got mine today. All I have is the Presidential Scholarship and an Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan - no grants, work-study, or additional loans. We can afford it if necessary, but it will be a stretch.

btw Squirrel888, my EFC actually is that high, much higher than the cost of attendance - but we are only middle class.

I am hoping against hope for some sort of merciful fin. aid from 'SC.

I pray. :)

And yes, intelliot, my dad did end up going to 'SC, for both undergrad and grad.

A question for those who are attending USC the second, third, or fourth year right now.

Do USC still give generous fin aid package to non-freshmen students? or u have to pay a lot after the first year?

Does anyone know how long it takes for them to tell you your financial aid info afrer they receive ALL your documents?

I just came back right now from the on-campus admitted student reception, and the financial counselors said that they're going to do some rush-examination of everyone's documents, and hopefully mail/post everything regarding financial packages by Thursday of this week.

Yeah, how is financial aid in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year? Do they give less each year? My parents are pretty worried about this...=[

That's an important question. You should ask them or ask undergraduates there. Read this too-it may or may not help you, just a link
<a href="http://www.collegeconfidential.com/cgi-bin/discus/show.cgi?6/77876%5B/url%5D">http://www.collegeconfidential.com/cgi-bin/discus/show.cgi?6/77876</a></p>

My info says it's all completed but when I checked the various financial websites, they all say information is not available. I hope they figure it out soon.

Your fin aid stays constant every year as long as your EFC stays constant. It goes down some if you move out of on-campus housing. Your fin aid elegibility runs out after 5 years though, so you can't screw around and change your major 8 times though. You can also apply your fin aid to study abroad programs.

is the EFC USC uses the same one that FAFSA calculates and sends

No yayaya; it's closer to what you put in the Profile.

trojangirlie05, r u a current student? do u receive fin aid also?

the link teal posted above (<a href="http://www.collegeconfidential.com/...how.cgi?6/77876%5B/url%5D">http://www.collegeconfidential.com/...how.cgi?6/77876</a>) made USC sounds very scandalous by luring freshmen with generous fin aid then drastically cut the aid by junior year. can more current 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year USC students vindicate for USC? i really like to go there, but i have to know the absolute truth first.

You will loose your merit grant if you fail to meet the requirements of the award. Note also that some scholarships are for one year only or just a lump sum. Check on the terms of the award. Your need based aid may change, possibly yearly, if your parents' income goes up or goes down, or if the rules for assessing need based awards are changed by Congress or the President.

I still haven't received my financial aid package........what am I supposed to do?

I received my aid, nothing too great like other people have been saying

University Grant $6,684
Federal Perkins Loan $1,380
Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan $2,625
Federal Work-Study $2,500

Total Financial Aid b$13,189

The difference between your estimated cost of attendance (shown below) and your total financial aid eligibility is

$31,533

No way my parents can afford to pay that much.

rose87, what was your EFC?

hyerim07, around 12k
