I'm currently a sophomore at an average public high school in Illinois, and I'd love to get into a top notch business school. Although im defiantly lacking in the extracurricular department,with none to speak of so far, I've been actively trading in an Etrade account i funded with graduation money from 8th grade.

So could I put that on a college application as an extracurricular?

I definitely think you could. It might be helpful, too, if it’s relevant to your career interests.

Absolutely it would, in a perfect world, i’d apply EA to Cornell and eventually get a J.D/MBA

just a side note, i currently have a 3.2 GPA (hoping to raise to at least 3.8 by senior year) with 2 AP’s and 1 Honors course. Junior year my schedule will be as follows;

APush
Ap Pysch
AP Macro
Honors Chemistry
Advanced Alegebra (regular level course)

Any help would be much appreciated!

I think it depends on the amount of success and the amount of time you put into it. Anyone could click a few buttons and “trade” on e-trade. However, if you’re researching stocks, beating the market, or trading derivatives it is definitely something to put on your app.

Well, i initially started with $1000, turned that into $4000 in a year, lost it all, put in another $400, and currently have just under $2000, had $2500 until silver went from $45 to $31. Ouch.

Personally I think that’s EC worthy. As long as you have learned from this experience it also sounds like a great essay topic.

Sounds like an EC to me and I agree that you have a great essay topic if it’s about what you’ve learned about yourself, about your professional goals, and about why that school is a good fit.
