I’ve been waiting for my acceptance or rejection any day now and I recently got into pace university in Manhattan. I know I won’t be bored in the city so I was wondering what the campus life is like at stony brook. am I going to be bored?
I am also waiting for my acceptance (hopefully) to Stony Brook. IDK if you visited the Campus, but you should to see how it’s like there. I visited and thought it was a nice campus but compared to other schools I visited and applied to, it isn’t the best. Campus is big and has great facilities, but the campus is more in a suburban area. If you like NYC then maybe Manhattan or Pace is for you. Stony Brook is probably better than Manhattan or Pace, but it might not fit what you like in terms of social atmosphere. I mean Stony Brook is probably 30 mins away from NYC but you might need to take a train and I think Campus is mostly a commuter campus.
@bmm1998 You are delusional about college life.
@BknetsvsGmen Stony Brook is more like 90 minutes from Manhattan by train. There is a private bus service from the University into the city and that’s also at least 90 min each way.
yeah I went to see it and I really liked it but I see so many posts about everyone going home and I’d be too far away to go home and the whole point of going away, for me, is that I won’t want to come home. but all this talk, I still have to get on first haha but thanks for your input
thanks wasn’t really asking that but sure @ScaredNJDad1
Yeah, Stony Brook is really suburban. You can get to the city by train or bus, but it’s pretty far. There is not a whole ton to do off campus if you don’t have a car. Within walking distance are some shops, a couple of Asian markets, a few restaurants, Dominoes, etc. You can take a bus to the Smith Haven mall or to Port Jefferson, which is a nice town. The feel of the campus is nothing like an urban campus, though.
Not everyone goes home of the weekends, of course. Some of my friends go home occasionally, but most of them try to stay on campus as much as possible. It’s true that there actually are a lot fewer people out on campus on the weekends. I think that’s mostly because people don’t have class, and there are no commuters. But you’d have plenty of friends who stay on campus in any case.
You should go to campus and check out the school. I enjoy the school and so do most of the people I know there. It depends on your personality though. If you want a really exciting and urban school, you may not love Stony Brook, although I think that depending on your program, Stony Brook may be better academically.
