Hi! My name is Alismary and I am interested in nursing. Stony Brook University has always been a college that I been interested in. I noticed how on the CommonApp, nursing is not offered as a major but rather pre-nursing. I also noticed how the university has its own separate application for its nursing school. I’m very confused. When I try to search about pre-nursing at SBU, nothing comes up. Does anyone know what this pre-nursing option is and as a student who’s gonna apply as a freshman do I use CommonApp and click on pre-nursing or do I use their separate application?
Hello! Stony Brook’s nursing program is an upper-level program, meaning you would apply to the nursing program in your second year or once you have completed the prerequisites. When applying to SBU, you would apply for Pre-Nursing or Nursing AOI (area of interest).
How long is the program total. My daughter just was accepted into the pre-nursing program. Thank you for your help!
The Nursing Basic Baccalaureate curriculum leads to the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nursing. Students begin the nursing major after completing two years of pre-admission, general education coursework, either at Stony Brook University or another accredited institution. Typically students complete this 71-credit program in two years (for a total of four years).
