Stony Brook University, advice, truths, and decision making?

I want the truths about Stony Brook. I have read so many comments and posts on here, yahoo, and other college websites that it is making me go crazy...some say it's horrible some say they love it. I want to hear it for myself.
So, What are your opinions about Stony Brook?
Would you reccomend me going there for BME fall of 2012 or do you think Drexel is better?
How is life at Stony Brook over all from a scale of 1-10? Why?
Stony Brook doesn't have co-op like Drexel, so what are my chances of getting internships?
I plan on going to graduate school and pursuing a Phd, is Stony Brook a good school to start from to go into a really good grad school?

Leave other comments, suggestions, etc...

It would be really helpful if you guys can give any advice, I am so confused right now...

My advice is that you should stop caring/listening to what other people, particularly strangers, say or think. Visit, go to classes, talk to actual students at Stonybrook, and reach your own conclusion. The only opinion that really matters is your own.

I have visited…and I live far away so I can’t just go whenever I like to see the university, so that is why I made this thread and that is why I have searched so much about the school. I can’t have an opinion about the school if I don’t learn anything about it first, so please let me do what I have to do to “reach my conclusion” as you say I should.

Are you instate?

Yes I am, but I live in upstate new york, so it takes over 9 hours to drive there…

Ah, I’m upstate as well (Buffalo). Stony Brook and Drexel are very comparable prestige wise, but the campus atmospheres are very different. Drexel is very urban and integrated with Philly, while Stony Brook is isolated and quite big. There are many commuters at Stony Brook, but the school is large enough to make social life still pretty good. As for internships, I don’t think you’ll necessarily have less opportunities, but you’ll have to plan out timing more carefully than if you were to do the co-op program at Drexel. If you apply early enough and have a strong resume, you should be able to find some good summer internships.

On your visits, which school felt like a better fit for you? If you truly can’t decide, think about the cost of attendance; I’m assuming Stony Brook would be much lower with in-state tuition.

I haven’t gotten a chance to visit Drexel, but I walked around Stony Brook’s undergraduate area and it felt okay…I didn’t like their library very much though. I will be living on campus, but I would probably go to Flushing alot since I have relatives there.

Do you think if I did the co-ops at Drexel it will be restricting on other activities that I would do compared to if I did internships at Stony Brook and got to pick my own?
