Stony Brook University or City College of New York for Computer Science?

I'm an undergraduate transfer student and I have to decide between CCNY and SBU for Spring 2014. I'll be majoring in Computer Science.

Thanks!

Where do you live? Do you want to live in an appartment in the big city or do you want to live in a town?
SB is well-known for CS, but CCNY is a great college too.

I would say SB has a better reputation for CS. Like the person above said, it also depends on the demographics you’d like, as CCNY is in the middle of a major city and Stony Brook is a small town.

All things equal, SB is the better school for CS.

Thanks guys! I live in New York City (three blocks from CCNY!) but have decided to move and attend Stony Brook University. It does have a much better Computer Science program (actually, the best for any public school in New York State) with an amazing faculty. It also has great research opportunities. Not to mention, it’s affiliation with UC Berkeley to take a semester there and many study abroad opportunities that CCNY does not have. Also, SBU has more campus spirit! So SBU it is!

Great choice, congratulations!

Thank you so much! I’m so EXCITED! Classes start in a week! Yay!!

Come back to post on the transfer forum, tell your experiences, etc. It’ll be very useful for future transfers! :)
