I just got the admission from cs@Stony Brook--SUNY. Before that, I am declined to the admission from JHU with a "small" scholarship. The two univs seem equally good, but I want to know more about the locations and the reputation in the job market.

JHU and Stony Brook aren’t close whatsoever in reputation - JHU is one of the most outstanding universities in the world, while Stony Brook is a fairly average / above-average state university with lackluster student ratings for campus life. If the cost differential is very significant however, Stony Brook could be a good option to have.

Thanks for your comment. the overall reputation of JHU is much better than Stony Brook, but the ranking in CS seems similar. I am more concerned about the reputation in job market, for I am a master student. Can JHU still outshine Stony Brook even in the job market in New Your City? And how about JHU’s reputation in NC or CA? Anyway, Marryland doesn’t seem like a heaven for IT industry.

Johns Hopkins.
Unless your primary concern is price. Then if you’re in-state Stony Brook is ridiculously cheap.
But definitely visit Stony Brook because it’s not what it appears to be.
Johns Hopkins outshines Stony Brook even at Stony Brook.

For MS in CS, I would say their academics are about even. But JHU is a fancier name, so go there if you can. But it sounds like you have no choice but SB, anyway. What matters the most is how well you do.
