stop dreaming

Okay so I really want Cornell, but I know it's a reach. Hopefully I'll get into Corell ED (and meet a nice Jewish boy and have nice jewish kids who find the cure to cancer after following in their mothers footsteps...) but on the other hand I need to be realistic too! :) I'm thinking of applying to Rutgers too and maybe JHU. Are there other schools that you think might be good for me?

So any suggestions?
Thanks,
E

ED your chances aren't bad at all, i'd almost say match, if your SATs really are 1400 or above

what type of school are you interested in and what is important to you? size, location, strong academics, etc?

CMellon is a good choice, along with Tufts and BC, i guess

good luck :)

Your record suggests that you enjoy Jewish community groups and activities. If your SATs go up a bit, you might want to consider the University of Maryland at College Park. It has a very active Jewish community and is close to Washington, DC, which is a big plus for many of the students.

You might wanna check out Brandeis. I'm half jewish and I liked the whole feel of it. It is the only Jewish college in the US but it isn't obsessed with it - it just wants to give people opportunities who wouldn't get them (that's one of the reasons it was founded...to stop the discrimination of jewish people...but it has evolved since then).

thanks for the input. My highest sat so far is 1370( I took jan and april) but maybe with a little luck June will be 1400 or higher. I hate how that's the big thing holding me back.

Also how competitive of a school is Brandeis and is the academic mind set at all similar to Cornell?

Thanks guys!
E

brandeis is. .. hmmm. i think when i was considering brandeis i dubbed it a match, and cornell a reach. i think the expectations are similar, but the mindset of brandeis is different from cornell. brandeis is smaller? i think? wow i'm not being much help at all but i think if you show cornell how much you want to go there you have a great chance!

E,

It think your chances are good for ED if you have a creative application and good recommendations.

Also, by the description you gave of your future goals, you'll fit right in here.

I think your chances are great. There have been lots of people who have gotten in with much lower scores but they must have had very good recommendations and stuff. Good Luck!!

Cornell is better than Brandeis in lots of catagories. Brandeis is a much smaller college, but still good-if not great...it depends on whos asking lol. I got the flavor of activism and liberal artsy type even though it is a university and I was there during a break. It is a nice school...but it seems like Cornell ranks much higher above it for u (as for me). Just a good one to keep in mind. -it looks like u like science...which is obviously Cornell...but politics could be nice for Brandeis. I mean I'm obviously for Cornell, but u know...lol

what are your SATs out of 2400? i'm assuming 1370 is your score out of 1600

and what do you plan on majoring in? or what school within cornell are you going to appliy to?

yeah 1370/1600 and I think I might major in neuroscience or genetics. I'm thinking CAS but only bc it seems like it has a wider range of majors I would like in case I don't like what I first start in.

also for my stats i forgot to mention girl scouts- working on gold award

So your writing score is what?

ummm not positive.. it's low though maybe 640ish I started with a 480 on my psat and worked a lot to improve... but yeah i know 640ish is :(

lol give us a more... complete picture if you want us to suggest stuff! like you can't leave a whole third of the SATs out lol

if you are in NY, try Ag school where you can bio major and study the neuroscience and other courses you want...I think Arts is a hard reach

i'm a jersey girl not ny- although originally from the Bronx :)

Colgate, Penn, Wash U, Tufts, Brandeis, Bucknell

eee, Brandeis has one of the only undergraduate neuroscience programs in the country. see http://www.bio.brandeis.edu/neuro01/ug_neuro.html

I think it's a good match for you. If a Jewish community is important, Brandeis clearly takes the cake.

I think you have a shot, especially if you apply ED.

If you abolutely know you want to major in life sciences or something related apply to CALS.. If not, give Arts and Sciences a shot. I think you stand a chance at either one.

I hear soon they are going to allow students a choice of two colleges, does anyone know when that starts?
