Storage facility - between semesters

Can anyone recommend a decent storage facility to store dorm items between semesters? We are out of state, and it will be easier to park everything locally between summer and fall. We will probably split it between three kids. Thanks for any help!!!

I am not sure how this works, but I have read that FSU will have a box program available for storage from one semester to the next so that you don't have to get outside storage units. Maybe someone can provide detail?

I assume you are asking about between summer C and fall since you can leave items in your dorm room over winter or spring breaks.

"OK. Storage: I spoke with a staff member in Housing, and she said that Maintenance makes available basement storage space at the end of summer term at either your summer dorm or your fall dorm. You can pack up 2-3 large boxes to store things like microwave, TV, bedding etc between summer and fall. Then when you are back at fall you retrieve your boxes. The space will be either at the dorm you use for summer or the one you will use for fall, but there will be designated space available. Other students and staff said there were storage facilities nearby, but they weren't needed unless you were going abroad, or maybe if you accumulated a lot of stuff by, say, senior year."

Thanks! I was a bit worried about leaving stuff in the dorm and thought it might be better to use a local storage facility. Sounds like people do this though?

Update: I have heard they might not offer this again this year.... And if they do if might be just 1-2 boxes. Guess we will just have to wait and see. I know that D has already spoken to friends and if needed they plan to get 4-5 kids together to rent something for the time between summer and fall if needed. I am concerned that the storage facilities will have a 6 month minimum, etc. That gets pricey. It sure would make it easy if they let freshman store a few boxes between summer and fall, especially before they have accumulated so much stuff.

I called housing and they said there is a "limited amount of on-campus storage" (first come first serve), and to talk to your housing coordinator when you arrive for summer. I'll look into area storage facilities (hopefully short-term) and will report back!

Regarding storage between summer c and the fall, I found the best solution while walking around the union. UPS had a table setup with a service specifically designed for this need. Boiled down, they offer three different size boxes ( my son could most likely fit all his stuff in two large boxes). They then have customized boxes fro tv’s and other items. Is all you have to do is give them a call at (850.575.4488) or go to their web site (The UPS Store #4263 - Tallahassee, Florida) . tell them how many boxes you need. They will deliver the boxes to your child’s dorm along with tape and labels. Then they come back and pickup your boxes and redeliver them to your new dorm when you come back in august. This seems like the way to go for us.
