Story of success and now chances??

I’m applying to all the Ivies, Stanford and top LA colleges. I came to America this past January. I’m an American citizen but I’ve lived my whole life abroad. My background is Native American (1/4th) and White, but I identify myself as Hispanic. My first language is Spanish, and I’ve taken AP Spanish (5), and SAT II Spanish (800). I had a 31 in my ACT and ironically a 36 in my ACT English. I’m taking AP Calc BC, English Lit, Macroeconomics and Physics 1. After only being less than 4 months in the country, I took AP Calc AB (3) and English Lit (3) Some more facts? I’m most probably graduating Valedictorian of my class. I had to delay my senior year. I live with a family that’s not mine. I’m pretty good at writing. Involved in 3 clubs and youth leader at school. What are my chances?

You mean Jan 2015, per your post last year, no?

They’ll weigh your international school records, to assess. We don’t see your actual rigor and gpa. You need to be sure you really match what your targets look for-- it’s more than being Val and some clubs. Depending on your possible major, the AP 3 scores can be an issue and the ACT subscores will matter. Be sure you have the right safeties, that are affordable.

No, I mean Jan 2016. And I come from a lower class background, and my GPA is 3.9. I understand about the AP, but does not give me any credit for only having AP classes from mid-January 2016 to the dates of the AP tests in May?

Oh and possible majors are Political Science, IR/Global Studies, Linguistics and Economics.

Some colleges will look at the AP scores for admissions, to see how you/your grades compare with others taking the tests, an indication of the level of your preparation. And you said, in August 2015, that you “lived in for six months. This August I’ll be starting my senior year.” Maybe there was some delay, but this is unclear.

What you need is to dig into what the colleges themselves say about what they look for. This is not the same as the hs race to the top. And when you want a tippy top, you have to be able to think and explore on that level.

Some posters will tell you flat outright that scores in tests in your native language don’t count the same. (I leave it to the colleges to decide.)

You’ll probably get into at least one of the schools you applied to, but you need to apply to some matches and safeties also.

I got into Amherst College RD through an early notification!

Dear ______:
This year Amherst received a record total of over 9,200 applications for an incoming class of 472 students. A very small number of applicants were found to be so extraordinary that we are notifying them early of their admission. You are one of that select group and I am pleased to offer you a place in the Class of 2021 at Amherst College. Your passion for the life of the mind and the depth of your involvement in school and community are what we look for as we build our Amherst class.
