A teen accused of plotting to blow up his high school told police that he wanted to die, go to heaven and kill Jesus, federal authorities said Tuesday.

Prosecutors argued in a federal courtroom that the statements are an indication that 18-year-old Ryan Schallenberger needs a psychological evaluation. The straight-A Chesterfield High School senior was arrested April 19 and faces several state and federal charges, including attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction. That charge carries a possible life sentence if he is convicted.

Ryan Schallenberger, 18, a student accused of planning a bomb attack on Chesterfield High School, in Chesterfield, S.C., stands before a judge, as he is assigned a court appointed attorney, Monday, April 21, 2008. Schallenberger was arrested Saturday after his parents called police because the teen had ordered 10 pounds of ammonium nitrate, which they'd retrieved after getting a delivery notice from the postal service, authorities said Monday.

yeah um he needs a 72-hour lockdown and INTENSE psychological examination. and possibly, the police need to talk to his friends and anyone he was close to.
but don't say it's stupid, retarded, etc. because .. people are prone to such extremes due to exclusion or something that really hurt them. just think of this as a warning to be nice and try to include everyone -- be a true friend.

he snapped. plain and simple. high school senoirs, can you honestly tell you me havent had "snapping' thoughts this year? probably not ones that involve cusing harm to others or going after The Big Guy but it gets REALLY INTENSE and some kids cant take it.

I don't think high school stress causes young people to turn homicidal against Jesus. Teachers, students, himself, perhaps, but this is more than grade stress or social acceptance. He wanted to kill JESUS. He must have some serious religious situation going on at home that needs to be dealt with, and not just psychologically.

^^yea...maybe someone tried to force religion into him when he didn't want it, and he eventually went ballistic? That's just speculation, of course.

schallenberg...isn't that a jewish name? Maybe he got a ton of antisemitism with classmates accusing his people of betraying jesus, killing him, etc., and this kid just snapped and thought ""**** it! If I've gotta take this crap then I'll at least go do what I'm being accused of!"

yeah that would have been horrible had the plan worked, but can you imagine how that phone call went to the parents, "You're son has purchased --lbs of ammonium nitrate." parent-'what?'
