i would go to bed and study before the quiz at school. if the class was first or second period, i would wake up earlier and study. or not straighten my hair in the morning or something and study instead.

Lol I'd never change my morning habits. If I fail the quiz, big deal. One quiz never decides your fate in life and if it does I'd never leave it to the end of the day.

true, the procrastination itself is a crime. but somehow i always find myself in these types of situations -__-;;.

yup, it becomes a habit for me now. Now that i'm a senior, it's getting worse. However I have to get serious pretty soon if i'm planning to go to college at all.

I am a firm believer in getting enough sleep. Somehow I manage to get all my homework done. I also work all day during the weekends. .... :o I should work on being less of a loser... ha ha... joking. I'm not a loser at all. :D <--would a loser have a gorgeous smile like THIS one??? ;)

the ap chem question:

bed. study in the morning. go to school in pajamas (I've started doing that about once a week anyway)

In 9th grade I was REALLY involved with drama, so there were quiet a few weeks (normally the week before and of the production) that I was at school all day until 12:30 at night. Then I had to come home and do homework. Needless to say, I was exhausted. But I kept going. I don't go to sleep unless my homework gets done, because at my school homework really affects your grade and most teachers won't let you turn it in late. I'm also someone who needs A LOT of sleep, at least 8 hours. But then I was running on about 4 or 5.

In situations like that, I would say try to study during lunch, before school, or during a class where you are ahead or the teacher won't mind. Also, it might help to look over the notes you take each day for just like 5-10 minutes, when the test comes it will be easy to study because you've already been reviewing the whole time.

Even if you don't know your assignments, try to find predictability in your classes. For my AP English, I generally get 15-25 pages to read a night, so if I don't want to worry about it, I read the next weeks "worth" on the weekend. Same with other classes (ie your hsitory class you read a chapter a week and do certian things in it).

my hierarchy of homework is:
papers/essays first

then math/science (if i have alot of hw, which i invariably do, i always do this first. i can struggle through economics or english at 1 am, but theres no way i can do math or science at this hour)

lose the computer- there are seriously nights ive gone to sleep at 2 am, not bc i had alot of hw, but because of hours spent on AIM and myspace. Losing sleep because of homework is alright, but you can't afford to let this happen due to mindless activities.

perfect scores- the closest to a perfect score ive ever gotten is on the ACT math section. honestly, i don't concern myself with perfect scores, schoolwork is 10 x more important. I just take a couple practice tests, and aim for the 700s/mid 30s- if you have a good GPA and a strong schedule, that's really all you need. I guess another factor in my not worrying about standardized tests is the forgiveness on SATs i can expect by virtue of the fact that i am an underrepresented minority.

learn the system. learn which teachers have what preferences. play those preferences. do the work. ABOVE ALL- be an ANGEL first wk of skool. first impressions last a lifetime and if yur teacher thinks yur an angel at first glance, thats the impression that will stay with them. also, go in and get help. most teachers will practically do the hw for you if u go in before school and say you need help. dont go to bed at 7 on a friday night. you CAN get all As and still have a life. im in like 1/2 the clubs in our skool, havent gotten a B yet, and i still go out and have fun on the wkends. its all about knowing yourself and what you can get by with. the test i can get an A on after 30 min of studying might take someone else 2 hrs of studying. its all about knowing how hard you have to work and then putting in that work. but knowing the system is #1

how about if you have some classes that require heavy reading like APUSH or Bio? How do fit that into your schedule. Cuz I usually take a lot of time to read so it takes up almost all of my homework time already.

Take a speedreading course or something.

Me, I get home 'round 6 pm every day because of crosscountry practice. And then I have sooo much work. Thing is, I just don't care anymore. I have like all B's. It's really upsetting. 4th grade - 10th grade was a time for perfect, and I mean perfect grades. But now I decided to screw it all over. I'm seriously like killing myself. I want to run away from home or at least like ... do something against my parents because I don't know ... They've had low standards for my brothers since my oldest brother was a crap son. But they figured that, since I'm a little blonde girl, I should be perfect. And I have, despite even an abusive dad. ...That is, until now. I just wanna tell them to p*ss off and get off my case. I'm seriously gonna fail my classes or run away from home. I just can't take it anymore.

OMG. I just said that. Like all of it. I don't even care ... I'm posting it.

1 TIP TO END ALL TIPS:

DON'T PROCRASTINATE! Don't do Myspace, Don't do Xanga, Don't do LiveJournal, Don't do Facebook, Don't do AIM or MSN messenger, Don't do E-Mail 5 times a day.
Basically, just imagine yourself in the 1950s.

I got a lot of work done without those distractions.

Don't procrastinate, and manage your time. And as the poster above me said, don't multi-task between homework and the internet.

Also, prioritize, and analyze your strengths. Can you get an A in Physics even if you don't always do your homework? Do you have to spend more time on Calculus, because it's harder for you, than on history? Are straight A's more important to you, or is being involved in a zillion clubs? Would you rather take every AP class offered, and maybe not do so well in them, or focus on a few APs? Are you a natural test taker, or do you need to study a lot? Does cramming/working under pressure work for you? What is the most efficient way for you to study? (By the way, that's very important. You should know how you learn, and use that to your advantage.)

Some of those are common sense, but trust me, figuring out exactly your priorities and strengths help a lot.

My trick is to relax. The more I relax, the less I stress. The less I stress the more I can concentrate. It makes me terribly lazy, but when I do work for a few minutes, I can work like a beast. 2390 (shame of my life), 800s on 3 sat iis, 4.0.

You do easy activities.

Become the president of your own fake club for 4 years. Someone in the math club is putting in 10 hours a week to be president of an activity a lot of people have. As president of your own fake club, you can put in 0 hours and milk it on your resume.

You take easy classes.

For example, take geography 2 instead of Physics 2 like all the smart kids do. Take Economics instead of Calculus.

You have rich parents so you don't have to worry about working to survive.

High School is not about being the best and the brightest. It's about hogging that GPA and playing the game.

Hah. I don't get how I do it. I procrastinate A LOT. Like right now, I have two AP bio labs to amswer the questions for, an AP calc assignment, and a yearbook ladder to organize.

And I was supposed to be in bed six minutes ago. Parents like to think that they enforce a bedtime, even though I'm seventeen.

But I'm typically up til between eleven and midnight doing all my homework; I don't get home til eight with my new job.

i procrastinate all day, then stay up really late doing homework. =(

i study for tests during earlier classes.

try to take AP classes in the subjects that interest you so that you will be motivated to pay attention in class and do the work. also seek out the easier AP's (not all AP's are created equal!). if you're pretty lazy (like me), avoid classes with a lot of mandatory reading and note-taking.

oh, and pray really hard before tests. =)

i know i'll have to fix my study habits before college, but it's so hard to change one's way of life. =(

Ha ha. It's wonderful to know there are normal procrastinators out there somewhere in the wonderful world of CC.

For me, it's really hard to good grades/ straight A's.
I play sports, so I plan my study time around that. If we have an away game, I start my homework on the bus. I do my SAT prep stuff in the morning (though my scores are still horrendous!). I also take piano lessons, so I have to plan out when I can practice. On average I would say I get home around 8'o clock and the only way I manage to keep my grades up is by studying in my free time and estimating how long certain assignments are going to take, otherwise I would take abosolutely forever to do my homework.

I usually go to sleep around 1am or 2am.

I think you'd be surprised at how many of us there are. The percentage is probably less here than elsewhere, but still...
