It will say NSB Acting or MT. I know when my son got his assignment for NSB- I was so confused because he clearly auditioned for straight theatre. He’s in the inaugural class for NSB so when I looked it up- it was there that I found that NSB was MT and straight acting and that the kids would be in the same acting classes. Personally- I think that’s great.

Thanks… I am looking forward to hearing where everyone lands when you get studio assignments!

I’m seeing The Seven on its Saturday night performance. From what I’ve heard, it’s going great so far. And the director is Kent Gash, who is also my acting teacher, and he is a fantastic director, so I’m sure it will be a great show.

And his nose looks fine, but he says that it hurts to smile.

Thank you so much! I can’t wait to hear what you thought about the show! Glad his nose doesn’t look different. You’re right, I hear Kent Gash is phenomenal!

@MomCares - D got email this morning on studio assignment - NYU Tisch New Studio on Broadway - MT! And this is what she auditioned for Big decision to make now - SU, NYU, BoCo!

@ParadiseMT - So glad your D got her preferred studio… congratulations! And have fun making her final decision!!

You’ve all had a long, action-packed audition season and I’ll bet everyone can’t wait to move into the “buy the sweatshirt” phase at your chosen schools. Againg, congratulations!

@MomCares - thanks. Really going through the decision process now. And interestingly enough, D already got her NYU sweatshirt back in 2009 when she did her very first college tour :)

@NYUmusictheatre - will take your offer of a straight talk about New Studio NYU MT. Expect a PM from me - and could be a long one. Thanks in advance :)

I did a PM to you, but haven’t heard back yet. Am anxious because we
need to make a decision before May 1.

What are the real advantages of forking over the extra dough do attend NYU Tisch compared to other top programs (I’m assuming Tisch is considered a top program) and does it make that much of a difference being a Tisch student as far as getting representation and work after college???

gamera, my response is likely not what you are looking for but…The reason to spend more (if that is the case, though it wasn’t for my kid) to attend NYU instead of another school isn’t because it is BETTER than another program. I don’t believe it is the “best.” For me, it was well worth the money to send both my children to colleges that fit them to a T. They had amazing experiences. Could this have happened some place else? Quite possibly! But it was worth it to me that they got to go to the schools they wanted to attend and fit what they were seeking, and not because these were the best schools, as who is to say which school is the best? The best, in my opinion, is a school that matches the student well. NYU/Tisch was a wonderful fit for my daughter but I would not claim it is for all people.

I would not pick a school based on the odds of getting representation. That is not why my kid went to college. Yes, my kid did get an agent out of showcase. It so happens, she is no longer with that agent and has another agent. Showcases are not the only way that an agent is possible. And even if you do have an agent, it doesn’t mean you will book work. And some book work with no agent. Booking work is based on talent and some luck, and not so much in having an agent, which is merely a tool in the process. I will say that from going to Tisch and being in NYC, my daughter has a vast network between faculty and peers and alum and one thing has led to another in many instances and this, in my opinion, is directly related to having attended Tisch. But that is not why she chose the school. Simply, the school met her personal college selection criteria and she was lucky enough to get into her first choice. This could be said about any school. To me, that’s what it is about and not about which school is “best” which is subjective. Yes, Tisch has an established reputation in the industry and I am not discounting it but that is not the end all and be all in the scheme of things. I think individuals are successful mostly due to who they are and not what school they attended.

One anecdotal thing to go with my point above…my other daughter is currently in graduate school. She is in a program at Berkeley. She got into a program at Stanford which offered her a scholarship four times the amount as the one offered at Berkeley. Stanford is surely a very good school. Some may say it is one of the best. She chose Berkeley because the program fit better with what she was looking for. Yes, it is worth the extra money.

Awesome response. Thanks!
