New Studio on Broadway

My son is winding up his first semester in NSB MT. He tells me he couldn’t have had a better experience and will catch me up on everything when he gets home for Winter Break. Hope to have some interesting feedback to share with CC!

Happy Holidays!

so can you update us on his perspective of this new program at NYU?

I wish I could get my son on the CC forum to answer questions himself. He’s been so busy on winter break. Still, the impression I get from him is that New Studio is a work in progress. He likes the way he is made to feel like both a student and a collaborator in the process. He has had a lot of good instruction: Sutton Foster–now gone off to star in ANYTHING GOES–for vocal performance, Byron Easley for dance instruction, Jack Eppler for private voice lessons. He has high praise for all his instructors. He’s especially loving the dance class, as he was not a trained dancer going in and has proven to have some natural ability. His sight reading/music theory class has been a challenge for him. Keyboarding is relatively new to him as well–but I heard him play a lovely rendition of a Billy Joel song when he got home and was really surprised and pleased. They must be doing something right! Kent Gash teaches his acting class. He likes everyone he is in studio with. They seem very happy and supportive of each other. He tells me Tisch is special because everyone is committed to the arts and loves what they do. He is a very happy camper!

Next semester’s Vocal Performance class will be taught by another Broadway performer, Michael McElroy. The faculty in this program are truly outstanding.

I googled Michael McElroy and he sounds fantastic! Clearly, NYU is seeking and hiring diverse, experienced and very talented instructors for their New Studio. Lucky the students who get to experience working with and learning from these amazing people.
