I know it's getting down to the wire here when i need to have a decision in by may 1st, but I still don't know where i should go!
First of all, let me give you a little background. I have been accepted to both Macalester and the US Naval Academy in Annapolis,MD (odd combo, i know) and absolutely love macalester. My sister is currently a senior there and is going on to do great things. Anyway, my problem is convincing my dad that i will be able to get a good job with a liberal arts degree. I might be able to come up with a good arguement if i actually knew what i wanted to major in, but i am clueless. I've toyed with the idea of pre-med, but science isn't my strongest subject. I also love PoliSci, but again, what could i say to my dad to convince him that i won't be working at Kowalski's for the rest of my life after i graduate?
Moving on, I know that the naval academy has a strong reputation as well, but i've done a couple of visits there and still don't know if it's for me. I know i could handle its rigor, ect., but am also not sure if i'm thrilled with being in the military. Financial aid is also of some concern, and i wasn't thrilled with my package, although i did appeal it today.
Even though this is a long post, i'm sure it doesn't even explain the half of it. I was just wondering if anybody had any comments or opinions about my situation, because it would be helpful. I know it sounds crazy, but i'm almost to the point where it doesn't even matter any more. I just want to quit thinking about it and know where i'll be next year!

If you honestly don't think you want to be there, do not go to the Academy. You will not enjoy your time there if you don't want to be there. Even though the Academy is free you do have to serve five years in the Navy after you graduate, even though Mac might cost more you do not have to sign away the 5 years of your life after you graduate. I live in Annapolias so if you have any questions PM me. Good luck with your choice, it is ultimately your decision!

P.S. Kofi Anan got a pretty good job after he graduated from Mac with a liberal arts education, tell your dad about him!

Or Walter Mondale, Tim O'Brian, or any number of other famous and influential graduates. I hate to say it, but if you're undecided and not thrilled about the idea of being in the millitary, the Acadmy sounds like a really bad idea. You have plenty of time at Mac to decide what you're interested in, and several majors (such as economics or pre-med) offer you high chances of employment and financial stability (if thats what you want).

your sister is at mac? have you asked for her help?

If you NEED the money from the military, Mac offers ROTC Navy through a local school (although I don't know which one). That gives you the Macalester campus and environment experience and the money if you think you can be in the navy after graduation.

A girl in my building is in the ROTC air force through St. Thomas (I think shes the only ROTC person on campus).

P.S. I know how to spell the name of my hometown, it's "Annapolis" not "Annapolias" as I so intelligently spelled it before
