I just got an invitation to a Dartmouth alumni Holiday Party in my area. They said they want to meet prospective students, but I know of nobody else who got this e-mail among the applicants I know. It might be kinda awkward but it might be a good chance to get to know some alumni. Anyone else get anything like this?

Maybe you're in one of those places where there's a weird town cut off? I know for instance, where I live, I'm in one town and the people across the street are technically in another town.

I would go. I know the Dartmouth Aires have been recently touring the East Coast and giving fabulous performances. I went to one recently. You also will meet a lot of Dartmouth-associated people: alumni, propective students, admitted students, current students, parents, etc. They'll all, I'm sure, have interesting points of view about the Dartmouth experience.

So, by all means, go! Dartmouth people are some of the friendliest people I've ever known!

I went to a Dartmouth holiday party over the weekend (the only '09 there) and really enjoyed it.

Wisconsin's was fun.

Go for it.

Man. I wish we'd have one of those in my area.

I went to Dartmouths holiday party too....it was cool to meet current Dartmouth students. There was special recognition for ED accepteds so it was cool to actually see who you're going to school with next year. The aires also played and they were amazing. Overall, it was alot of fun and I definitely recommend going!

Don't give up Newo54, we live in Alabama, and DD was invited to a party given by the Alumni Club next week. It is too far away, though, for her to make it - that's the disadvantage we have where one group serves the whole state.

Actually, this is cangel's daughter. Yeah, there's been no formal introduction.... Anyways, my dad and I are going to make it to the party tonight. I have no idea what to expect, though.

hey greensleeves, are you from alabama or LA (california)?

She's from "Lower Alabama"

Scimmia: "the only '09 there"

Ahahah, do I ever know what you mean. When I was in the freshman parade(don't ask), I quite rightfully felt like the only hopeful '09 there haha. Everyone around me was chanting "08 08 08 08 08".... and being as drunk as I was, I started yelling "09 09 09 09 09" instead. Anyways, I hope that we'll both get to run around the fire together in 2005!

p.s.: 2008 is the worst class ever!
p.p.s: they ran the wrong way!
p.p.p.s: touch the fire!

Whoa there. Sorry I gotta ask haha. That sounds wild, do you have a sibling at Dartmouth or something that (I assume) you were at the bonfire? Or were you just visiting that weekend? If the case is the latter...that was some opportune timing on your part.

I was visiting a girl and it happened to be homecoming weekend. I'm not exactly sure how/why I ended up in the freshman parade or running around the fire(for an hour and a half... while drunk), but it was damn fun. If we both get in, Scimmia, we'll have to be sure to get everyone to switch direction half-way through the run :)

Hypoxia,

A a person who hopes to be a member of the class of 09, I think that you are starting off on the wrong foot by slamming the 08's especially during the part of homecoming weekend that was set up to celebrate them, because it shows that maybe you really aren't ready to be part of the Dartmouth community.

If I were you I would apologize to the 08, because if you are accepted they will more than likely be your host for dimensions. In addition, while the world is a big place, the campus is small and people's memories are lone. Would you really want to be there 3 years with a class whom you said was the worst class ever?

Sybbie...

During the freshman fire, everyone around the fire yells that the class 'is the worst class ever', they're 'running the wrong way', and that they should 'touch the fire'. It's part of the tradition, and I'm sure every '08 knows that.

lol :)
