Strange Essay Prompts

After doing some research on U of Chicago, i couldnt help but notice that the essay promts are well, a bit unusual! lol Do they change from year to year or do they remain the same? like say for istance the mustard question, has that been around for a while or is that new for this years applicants only?

welcome to the world of Chicago!
The questions change each year, but always remain unusual.

Sometimes questions do not change. For example, the one about the Mind's I

That one changed. Different 4 essays every year. The first 2-3 are usually inspired by students, the last 1-2 by the admissions office, and the last one always asks you to create your own prompt.

the previous ones seem to be so much better

How many of those questions require responses? Or is it up to the student to determine how many essays the want to submit?

the application states explicity (in fact, i believe they italicize) that you are to choose one essay to which to reply.

good! they're all so odd. I mean, I wouldn't even know where to begin if I had to write a response to the mustard question! lol
