Strange situation.

Assuming my scores don't improve, I'd like you to chance me.

-Californian citizen studying at a small, young international school in China.
-Will receive american high school diploma and IB diploma

Numbers:
-School has no weighted courses
-After soph year, there was a schoolwide decision to no longer give out GPAs. everyone now receives a mark out of 7 for each course.

9th/10th grade UW GPA: 3.8/4.0
11th/12th grade IB grades (so far): 36/42
Rank: 1st or tied for 1st, out of 14 though.
SAT I: 2020 (CR 550 M 720 W 750), 1970 (CR 560 M 750 W 660)
SAT II: Chinese 800, Math2c 670, World History 470 (I regret taking this, covered up, right?)

Activities
-Nothing on the state/national/international level
-My awards are local ones or within the school. no idea how to participate in regional competitions or whatnot, either.
-In freshman year, I joined everything that was available, because there really wasn't much.

Summers:
9-10 Interned at a nearby company
10-11 Summer at Berkeley, took Psych (univ course), Public Speech, Debate
11-12 Volunteered at a government hospital (veterans and military service ppl only)
I travelled.

I sporadically take/have taken piano, drum, art, chem, and math lessons.

I'm sure I've left a lot of other minor things out, but this is most of it.
Assuming my math2c and SAT I retakes do not go up, how are my chances at:

UPenn (Wharton)
Cornell (CALS - AEM)
Berkeley (Und - Haas)
UCLA
UMich (Ross)
USC (Marshall)
NYU (Stern)
UCSD
UCD
UCI
UCSB
Babson College

OOS for UMich
Don't know if I'm in-state for the UCs; parents pay income taxes, but I haven't been physically present during the school year.

Thank you.

Anything? which schools do you think are my matches?

I'd say most UCs are matches/low matches considering that you are a resident of california. except berkeley which is a reach i think

here's what i think for the rest:
umich = reach (OOS)
upenn wharton = very high reach
cornell aem = high reach
nyu stern = reach
usc = slight reach
babson = dont know

well, taking various activites and several varsity sports into account as well as your all-right IB scores, I personally think that you have good chances of getting into those universities + your experience in China as a Californian citizen. But your SAT scores aren't that great and I must remind you that there are about 2,000 or more IB candidates who has higher scores than 36, and many of them might be applying to Cornell, UPenn, and Berkely..also, in IB, the points are not the only thing that matters but also the difficulties of courses you have taken. Surely a person who gets 36 in English A1 HL, Mathematics HL, German A1 HL etc, would have a much better chance than a person with 36 in Math SL, Eco SL, English A2 SL and so on, you understand? And I can't really tell from ur stats what IB courses or how many HL courses you have taken..

HL EnglishA1 Math Psych
SL History Chem MandB
Our only options were between Psych/History/Physics/Art. I would think I picked classes that were harder/more related to my prospective major (business). I'm already taking chem (mandatory at our school), so I didn't pick physics. psych, i'm interested in that, I didn't pick art cuz I thought it'd be easy.

DP coordinator recommended sticking to 3 HL 3 SL. Also said she hasn't seen a kid take more than 3 HLs (although later on, my friends from the states confirmed you could do that). She's had kids from the school she used to work at go on to ivies/top LACs.

thanks for your responses though.

Also, dad got his MBA at USC, if that helps.

UPenn (Wharton)--Reach
Cornell (CALS - AEM)--Slight Reach (low CR score)
Berkeley (Und - Haas)---You don't apply to Haas until sophomore year for junior year admission--for regular admission to Berkeley you are probably Match to Slight Reach (in-state, I'm presuming).
UCLA--Match
UMich (Ross)--you apply to Ross as a freshman for sophomore admittance--regular admission to Univ of Michigan--Match to Slight Reach (OOS)
USC (Marshall)--Match (legacy helps a lot here--18% of students are legacies)--the CR score being low hurts a lot, though--so the ECs are important to getting you in
NYU (Stern)--Slight Reach (you are match at NYU (CALS), but not at NYU (Stern))
UCSD--Match
UCD/UCI/UCSB--Safe Match
Babson College--Safe Match

I would expect you are in-state for the UCs; since parents pay income taxes, and you are a US citizen. I don't know for sure, though. My "chances" above are based upon you being considered "in-state".

Note: Be sure to include an extra statement with your UC application explaining your citizenship/school situation.

Thanks for all responses!

How do I include this statement? Do you mean another sheet attached to the recs and transcript that gets sent out? My parents also have those W-2 forms to prove that we do pay income taxes (our reported income is <$36000 if that helps)

Oh yeah, it's 36/42 not 36/45.

/randomtext/

Or you could help me think of a better title :).

Just apply and play along, mate ;)

Will do (intentional bump).
