With the AP US Government and Politics exam now less than 3 weeks away, it is easy to freak out and start memorizing lists of Supreme Court cases. Prep books and Internet sites are happy to oblige with mind-numbing lists. For example, Cliffs has a special appendix with 64 cases, the majority of which have never been on an AP American Government exam.

It is necessary devote extra study time to learning lists of Supreme Court cases? A careful review of all the released tests (89, 94, 99, 02, 09, and Practice 08) reveals that there are an average of just 4 multiple-choice questions per exam that deal with specific Supreme Court cases.

Here are the Top 8 cases:
. Marbury v. Madison
. McCulloch v. Maryland
. Dred Scott
. Plessy v. Ferguson
. Brown v. Board of Education
. Griswold v. Connecticult (established the right to privacy used to justify Roe v. Wade)
. Roe. v Wade
. Miranda v. Arizona

AP US Government and Politics Crash Course has a very well organized review chapter that discusses 30 key Supreme Court cases. The cases are organized both chronologically and thematically. This efficient organization promotes a focused and efficient review. Barrons would be my second choice.
