<p>So I know downloading music & stuff in college is a big no no (I don't do it anyways, I'm scared of viruses lol) but I was wondering about streaming? Like streaming tv shows, movies, etc. A lot of the shows I watch air in the UK, so I usually stream them a couple days later. Does anyone have like a general idea about how that works?</p>
<p>When I went to visit my school, the girl I stayed with on an overnight stay says she streams stuff all the time, she just can't download it. However, she streams like Japanese anime and Asian soap operas, so I'm wondering if there is a difference.</p>
<p>I think that depends on the site. I know it’s completely different, but when streaming sports you will likely will be doing so through a betting site, which I imagine would be a no-no. If you think a site is questionable, I believe it would be in your best interest to ask someone at the school (not a student, lol) if the site is alright to stream from.</p>
<p>I would like to think that schools would block IPs or websites that they consider bad sources, but I don’t know for sure.</p>
<p>If you’re talking about Hulu, I stream UK shows all the time too. If you’re talking about other websites where things are a little less professional, I would be just a little weary.
To be honest, I am still scared of getting in trouble for downloading something wrong but it seems like unless you are doing something that is obviously illegal like pirating and uploading them to the web, you should be fine.</p>
<p>I would say just test them when you get there and see if they even work. If you are not sure, don’t be afraid to ask the school’s tech support what their policies are early in the year, it may be kind of a weird question but it will definitely inform you and put you at ease for the rest of your academic career.</p>
<p>General rule: Stream is a go. Download is a no.</p>
<p>What about watching a streamed movie from noobroom?</p>
<p>It depends on the school. Mine didn’t allow file sharing sites, but allowed sites like hulu and netflix.</p>
<p>Check your school’s rule book. It usually has the guidelines.</p>
