I had planned on getting my daughter a streetcar pass but see that they are $55 a month. Doubt she will use it enough to make that economical. Does anybody know if there is a discount for students? I can't find anything on-line if there is.

Thanks.

I could never find a student discount either. Probably makes more sense to keep a roll of quarters around and grab 10 whenever they are getting ready to go out.

That streetcar pass is well worth it. Just get on the streetcar when you’re having a bad day and take a ride. Watch the gorgeous homes and oak trees go by. And if the pass lets you get on and off unlimited, it’s well worth it. Like those hop on/hop off buses in DC. Get off to eat, get back on to shop, then back on to head back to the dorm. Lots of freedom with that pass.

I would save the money and buy a bike. $1.25 isn’t that expensive for a one way run and they are not likely to make 20+ trips a month. Use the $55 + for a bike from the bike shop on Carrollton and see more bang for your buck.

Sure, save your money for a pass. But please do spend the buck and a quarter to take the streetcar. Such a nice ride and a true treasure of our great city.

As a student here at Tulane, I will say it is nice to ride the streetcar sometimes, but it’s probably not going to be top on the list of things to do. In many ways it is a lot nicer to take a walk in Audobon or something. The streetcars take a long time (well its hit and miss) to even get to you and the entire process is time consuming. Unless you’re a student way ahead in your studies with no commitments throughout the day and friends who are the same, most students won’t be taking jolly rides on the streetcar.

That being said, your daughter doesn’t need a streetcar pass. She will not use it. I agree that it’s better of to buy her a bike… I wish I had one here.

Thank you all for good advice.
