I am looking to major in Anthropology and I have applied to these schools:

Grand Valley State
Aquinas College
Calvin College
Hope College
Knox College
College of Wooster
Kalamazoo college
Wheaton college IL
Denison University
Kenyon College
UMichigan
UChicago

Aquinas, Calvin, and Hope don't even have Anthro degrees.....but they have student-designed majors an they're close to where I live. Some of them, like Kzoo, have Sociology and Antho combined, and I read on another thread that that was a sign of a weaker program.

I know that UChicago clearly is the top choice here, but if I got in there, well, I would have to have super powers. My stats are not good enough. UMich and Kenyon are iffy too.....Which of these schools would have the best Anthro program?

Also, I'd want to emphasize in cultural anthro or sociocultural.

I don’t know about Anthro, but I just wanted to remind you that 55-60% of college students change their intended major. You’re better off choosing the college at which you’d want most want to be than picking one on an assumption of strength in one particular discipline. FWIW, if Chicago, UMich and Kenyon were out, I’d look next at Wooster and Denison.

Wooster is a special place. Higher education professionals tend to have a lot of regard for it, and Loren Pope (CTCL) claimed that no college in America was better at educating students. Its senior thesis program is the stuff of legend - after filing their approved theses with the Registrar the seniors each get a Tootsie Roll, which for some of them becomes one of their most prized keepsakes. A lot of community and school pride.
