Ok so as the title suggests I am a very stressed out junior especially since I just look the SAT subject tests today and am nervous about how I did and that I am smack in the middle of AP testing time
For US colleges I thinking about- are my classifications pretty accurate?
GW- visited and loved (Target)
American (low Target)
Gtown- visited but I didn't particularly like I don't know if I got a fair impression or not (reach)
Northeaster (target)
NYU (Reach or Target??)
Malcaster (Reach?)
William and Mary (Reach)
Denver u (Safety)
maybe Boston university (safety)

So my stats in short-
ECs- your average activities NHS, varsity tennis...ect. significantly I started a debate type club at my school, and I got a one of a kind internship over the summer in Nicaragua through my previous mission work with a non profit organization

GPA- 4.0
Rank top 10% hopefully it will stay that way my school is reallly competitive\
Loads of AP's and college classes- taking the hardest classes possible

My real weakness is test score
SAT super score 1900 definitely want to retake in the fall somemore but not sure how much I can improve
ACT 29 again want to improve, realistically speaking maybe by one or two points
APs-
World History 4
APUSH, Macro Econ., AP Bio (a hopeless case since I had such a bad teacher), AP English- scores all pending here-
SAT Subject tests- scores pending
Im also going to try to take 6 or 7 aps next year but that will be too late for admission

the 1900 SAT you have deals a crushing blow to your application. it may put you below the average SAT score for applicants to MOST of those listed colleges, BUT you have a chance if you write a really good essay, especially for GWU.

I am like you: average kid, NHS/captain of track…with other ECs…5500+ hours…3.96W
1950 SAT, BUT I am accepted to GW because I wrote a really good essay about why I want to be at GW.

The school year for you is ending. Do you want to do really well? Listen to me. Take a couple of weeks off after school ends. Start your research and narrow your list of colleges if you can. All Commonapp essays come out in August and START writing your essay ASAP. work your butt off to take your SAT up to 2000+. Anddd spend LOTS and LOTS of time with your “WHY GW” essay. If you do, you’ll get in. promise:)

I think saying that her score is a crushing blow is a bit harsh. GW takes either SATs or ACT scores whichever is better. My daughter has the same stats as the original poster and she got into Elliott through Early Decision. My advice is to show interest. Make them feel that they are your number one choice. Visit their table at a college fair, see the admissions person when they visit your high school and schedule a trip to visit the campus. Most importantly schedule an interview. Also try to apply early decision. I think all these factors really helped my daughter get in. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

I think the key words there are “EarlyDecision”. GW would be a target ED, not so sure RD.

Where are you from?

I wrote an awful essay 3 hours before the deadline, never interviewed, and never visited. Grades are #1, everything else is second. Never forget it. You seem to have that covered with the 4.0 gpa. The only thing I would worry about at this point if I were you is retaking the SATs. Just do some practicing and bump your score up a bit, and should be perfectly fine ED
