Stressed out...

I am stressing out right now. I’m a junior, and I am almost done with the things I have to send in to colleges next year.

My unweighted GPA is about 3.6, but my weighted is about 4.1 (as of right now):
- sophomore 1 = 3.9
- sophomore 2 = 4.0
- junior 1 = 4.2
- Junior 2 = don’t know yet… I’m scared that it will bring my GPA down

I’ve been doing okay until recently. All those exams and finals and AP preps have really brought my grades down a notch. I had 4 A’s and 1 B about a month ago, but now I have 4 B’s! I guess I can still get the higher of the borderline, but it’s so, so hard.

I’m in the middle of taking my AP exams.
- History = most likely a 5
- Biology = haven’t taken it, but maybe a 4
- Literature = I heard it’s really hard, and I don’t think our teacher prepared us well. Those multiple-choice questions are so freaking hard!!!!

The only thing I am happy about is my SAT Reasoning score: 2100. I got 790 on Chinese, too. I’m taking a few more AP’s my senior year, and I still have SAT History and Literature to take in June.

Extracurricular:
- piano level 10
- 1st place Chinese composition contest
- placed in Bay and State competitions for Business Law FBLA
- very athletic, but no school sports because I didn’t want to spend my time on only one sport
- average volunteering… It just seemed pointless watching people walk on Saturday mornings.

I’m sure I can write a good personal essay for the UC, so if I explain myself (and my dreams) in there… would I have a better chance?

I’m sorry if I’m rambling, but it just feels as if all my hard work is going down the drain… My top-choice university is UCLA; 2nd is UCSD. Nothing’s wrong with Davis, but my two friends who slept through high school got in Davis. It’s so unfair if I could only get into Davis when I worked so much harder…

Do I still have a good chance at UCLA or UCSD?

You're still above average, even in the more competitive schools in California. UCLA is a reach, but UCSD shouldn't be a problem for you. I'm on the same boat as you, 4.1 weighted, 2020 SAT 1, we'll see how it turns out.

UCSD is a match but UCLA is a definite reach.

I was pretty much in your position this year (slightly higher gpa, sat, above avg ec's) - rejected from UCLA, which was my top choice as well.

UCSD shouldn't be a problem?

that makes me feel better... thank you :)
