I want to major in business/ Finance or Economics. But, the only extra curricular activities I can find are in the STEM field.
I am trying to do the following:
I am trying to start an FBLA club ( if i can find people to join)
Will be participate in the academic Decathlon individual competitions
Trying to start an international relations ( if anyone joins)
Playing golf (varsity in the 11th)
Boy scouts
Cello and violin
Avation
I was volunteering at the hospital, but a volunteer got bacteria so they discontinued that.
By the way I am homeschooled.
Does anyone have an idea of what strong extra curricular are non STEM Related ( unless there environmental Science)?
You could start buying/selling stocks (I don’t know the logistics of this). Try starting a Euro Challenge/Fed Challenge team (depending on your grade level). You could sell stuff on eBay (this may be more of a Business thing, though). It seems like once you make those clubs, you’ll have enough in school leadership–what you need to do now is focus on “real world” stuff that can have an impact on your community.
This is field is one of those things where you cannot really specialize in EC’s in high school because well, you don’t have large sums of money to account for, cannot really understand economic changes since you are a minor etc. The best bet would be to try to get involved in leadership activities that show drive, people skills, communication skills etc. Perhaps get involved with commmunity fundraising, getting a job, perhaps becoming treasurer of some organization etc. Business related fields require phenomenal social skills so keep that in mind.
It’s an election year. Can you find a local person running, offer to do grunt work. Once you prove yourself, they may let you observe something related to local business issues.
Since you say you’re interested in finance, I don’t know why you’re looking for college research. It’s different for stem kids to go wash test tubes or input data.
In general, homeschool kids are better off finding existing activities or clubs, not trying to “found” them unless they’ve got a big group of peers to recruit and a mentor to guide you. Just founding isn’t it.
