I applied to UCSD for Structural Engineering since I wanted to study Civil Engineering or Construction Management and they don't have those. I am a CA transfer student with a UC GPA of 3.4 and will have IGETC done. I don't have all my major prep done with though since my school only offers Physics and Math sequences beginning in the Fall. What chance do I have of getting into Jacob's? Should I go to UCSD and take the course and transfer into Jacob's if I get in to school but not college. Other schools (UCD and UCI) I applied to I've changed my major after realizing they have additional requirements like finishing math and physics. Does UCSD have these same requirements that maybe I've overlooked? Thanks for reading and please respond.

Hello, I was in a shockingly similar position 2 years ago (Fall of 2012). My stats were GPA 3.48, IGETC completed, Math and Physics as completed as they could be and I had 2 engineering classes under my belt as well.

I applied for Mechanical Engineering with Structural Engineering as my second choice. I was wait-listed until mid-June at which point I was accepted for Structural Engineering. This leads me to believe I was very close to the cut-off of accepted applicants.

Now I imagine the applicant pool changes every year so there is a margin of error in relating the situations.

I can say however that I was accepted into UCI. I was also accepted into UC Davis and UCLA as a math major. I also saw those additional requirements and put math as my major. In retrospect I wish I hadn’t because apparently if you are still a competitive applicant they still give you consideration if you have not completed the “required classes”.

Hope this helps
